I'm from Leicester, I'm from the Midlands. To me, Sheffield and upwards in North! I hate it when a Southener calls me a Northerner.. I'm from the Midlands!!

''look north'' bbc news starts in liverpool manchester, however the call it the same in the north east??

It's called "Look North West" in the north west. Oddly enough. But while TV regions are a useful guide our beloved government has its own geographical map of England with nine regions which differ to TV.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regions_of_England

Cheshire, Merseyside, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Cumbria form the North West.

Cleveland, Durham, Tyne and Wear and Northumbria make up the North East.

Derbyshire falls in to East Midlands so is effectively not the north.

South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, North Yorkshire and Humberside (including the bit south of the ah Humber) for Yorkshire and Humberside. I think every Yorkshireman would argue that this is the north.

Anything past the top of the M25 lol

OH is from Birmingham I call him an Northerner he says he isnt

He certainly isn't a northerner, he is from The Midlands.

North starts around Manchester-ish or Hull on the East side.

The Mersey to the West, the Humber to the East.
  • When Southerners say they think the north starts at the top of the m25 i realise that must be because they are too stupid to understand the concept of a midlands area !!

The Midlands is rejected by everyone! When I was in Bristol it was considered the north, but among those from Crewe it's considered the south. I wonder what is generally accepted as the most southern point of the North and most northern point of the south?

Yes I agree. Folk just need to look on a map to get barings. The rest is just ignorance. People in the north say it about the South too. You can be North or south of anywhere it's a factual concept. Midlands is just the mid lands.
