The Oxford Dictionary is a record of language change and always has been; so by its very nature it is not what it used to be because language is constantly evolving.jackieblack wrote: »I don't care, it still annoys me
The Oxford Dictionary also now includes awesomesauce, hangry, bants and wine o'clock

Exactly. This thread is about words or phrases that annoy you.
The fact that said word or phrase exists in the OED is irrelevant.0 -
Haven't read through the entire thread so these are probably repeats....
Would of instead of would have.
Anyhoo - it's anyhow.
Two times - twice - adverts even use it now - this is two times longer - no it's twice as long!
One time - it's once!
Also I've heard this a lot on programmes like TOWIE
- "you upset me as a person" - erm as opposed to what? Upsetting you as a tree?!
Ageing is a privilege not everyone gets.0 -
"End of"
I've never heard it used in real life, only in posts on MSE, so it may be some kind of forum shorthand.0 -
Been reading the thread which means I'm off for a lie down with a cold flannel to just cope with the angst. I have a world of words and phrases I hate !
Narrowing it down is the problem...0 -
I (reluctantly) had to speak to one of our I.T. bods at work the other day.
Of course, he trotted out one of my most hated sentences ever...
"Have you tried turning the computer off and then on again?"
Aaarrggghh!!! (And no, it didn't work. It never does)"I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0 -

The word bods is one I dislike lol.
The reason IT people always say turn it off and back on again is because it works a high percentage of the time. The first thing I do if I have an issue is turn the computer off and then back on again and it usually solves the issue.
It's said for a reason. Computers often do need to be shut down and restarted in order to start up properly without the error because they often just glitch and the error is forgotten once shut down. Not sure how it's never worked for you!0 -

It very often does. It's always the first thing you should try before calling for help.0
