Not harder to say (does anyone actually say DH, DD etc though?) but it is harder/ more long winded to type out in full, especially for anyone posting on a phone
It's just an abbreviation, used for brevity, so doesn't bother me.

Hubby does irritates me (it's a bit demeaning, unless you don't mind being called wifey?) and slightly nauseating

It's the D that bugs me in DH/DS etc. If you want to abbreviate, why not just H/S/D etc?

Yes I agree, who on earth calls anyone "dear/darling" anything. I use oh, as I hate the word "hubby", but write out all the rest in full. I'm not in a hurry, so don't need to abbreviate :D

I've often wondered what the D was an abbreviation for. I've never heard any one talk about dear son or dear daughter (though it might be a regional thing), so I can't understand why anyone would abbreviate to something that they don't actually say. I do hear 'other half' from time to time, so OH has some logic for those who are short of typing time.

Meant to quote the poster earlier on who wrote about saying 'Me' instead of 'My', as in 'me Mum's got me dinner ready'

My boss does this. Even in work things. In emails etc.

    Is your boss Northern?

I tend to use it when speaking to friends and relatives, but try my best to correct myself and use 'My' when in company!

I'm a 90's kid when they were born in post 95 you were a 90's toddler.

I'm hoping these are all and aged based thing and everyone on my facebook will stop with this ridiculousness by the time they all hit their mid 20's

And yes, someone born after 94/95 is NOT a 90s kids, they're a noughties kid! I was born in the mid 70s, and so I'm an 80s kid, not a 70s kid!

I would have said that if you were born in a particular decade, you'd be classed the same as someone born on the first day of that decade.
For example, I was born in 1953, I'm a fifties kid.
My sister was born in 1966, she's a sixties kid.
I'd have said you were a seventies kid.

Am I looking at this in the wrong way?
Is there a rule about this?

I've heard questions on quiz programmes about (e.g.) songs of the 'noughties' and I don't think they would have accepted something recorded in 1998.

Yes, you are looking at it the wrong way. (IMO.) And the comparison with the song date is not the same.

You aren't a 90s kid, if you were born in 96-99, you are a noughties kid. And as I was born 1977, I was most definitely an 80s kid, not a 70s kid. The time refers to when you grew up/when you were a kid. Like from 6 to 14-ish. It doesn't refer to when you were born.

I am not a 70s kid. I don't even remember than 70s. I was only 2 and a half in when 1980 started! But I remember the 80s quite vividly. As miss moose said: if you're born in 1997 ish, you are not a 90s kid:- you're a noughties kid.

The decade you grew up in, usually denotes what decade 'kid' you are. It's not necessarily when you're born. If you were born in the early part of the decade (like 1971,) then I guess you would, be a 70s kid. But if you were born in 1976-79, you were an 80s kid... I think it depends which half of the decade you were born in.

There is nothing written in stone; it's just general knowledge. (Maybe moreso amongst the younger generations...)

    I disagree.

IMO as I was born in the sixties I am therefore a '60's child regardless of whether I was born early '60s or late '60s.

    That's up to you.

    No skin off my nose.

But if you are born after 1965, you are not a 60s kid.

    You're a 70s kid.

It is all obviously opinion rather than fact of course. But in my strong opinion (and in the opinion of many younger folk- less than 45 y.o.,) you are in no way a 60s kid if you were born 1965-1969, or a 90s kid if you were born 1995 to 1999.

Like I said, it refers to when your childhood was; not when you were born.

I agree with you. Born late 70's and would definitely class myself as an 80's kid.

Thanks G. Same here. Born 1977. Don't even remember the 1970s!

My earliest recollections are Back to the Future, Fame, Duran Duran, Bucks Fizz, Yazoo, Michael Jackson/Thriller, ET, Return of the Jedi, Dramarama, Chocky, Dangermouse, The Booktower.

The 70s are non existent to me.
