I (reluctantly) had to speak to one of our I.T. bods at work the other day.

Of course, he trotted out one of my most hated sentences ever...

"Have you tried turning the computer off and then on again?"

Aaarrggghh!!! (And no, it didn't work. It never does)

The word bods is one I dislike lol.

The reason IT people always say turn it off and back on again is because it works a high percentage of the time. The first thing I do if I have an issue is turn the computer off and then back on again and it usually solves the issue.

It's said for a reason. Computers often do need to be shut down and restarted in order to start up properly without the error because they often just glitch and the error is forgotten once shut down. Not sure how it's never worked for you!

It sometimes does though, not just computers either.

It very often does. It's always the first thing you should try before calling for help.

It's worked numerous times for me. Staff get complacent and do t try to do anything themselves, especially when IT is concerned. I used to be guilty of it too. Its the first thing I do with my phone, tablet etc too, and it's usually worked. IT depts need to ask this question.

Very few words or phrases annoy me. I don't like it though when people use the word weary instead of wary.

Also I dislike the word "partner". To me it sounds as if you have a business together.

People who start a thread on here (generally on the Discussion board), and follow it with:

    Discuss.

It is reminiscent of exam papers at school, and is highly likely to prevent me contributing to the thread rather than encourage me to!
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

Yes, yes, I do know all this, I'm actually quite computer literate unlike some of our so-called I.T "experts" at work. I told the guy that I had the same issue on 3 different machines, that it was a clearly a password access issue and that he probably needed to reset my access levels. And yet he still asked me to turn it off and on again. Which, unsurprisingly, didn't work. As I knew it wouldn't!

My computer keeps losing the volume control on my task bar.

Last week I had to switch it off and back on again three or four times in a row before if reappeared.

I worked with someone who used to say (and write!) 'pacifically' when they meant 'specifically'. It used to drive me nuts.

'Basically' is another word that annoys me when it's overused. Years ago, when I was at uni, I had to sit through a ten-minute presentation given by another student who used 'basically' two or three times in every sentence. It grated on me so much that I started counting the number of times she said 'basically' and I got to well over a hundred.

At school, we had a newly qualified geography teacher who used the word 'right' all the time which meant we couldn't concentrate on what else she was saying, and there were giggles too. One day, she asked someone what they were writing on a piece of paper while she was talking and they admitted to her that they were keeping an account of how many times she said 'right'. It must have been embarrassing for her but she never said it again.

Amond, sounds like aRmond, instead of aLmond, they all do it, even in TV!!!

Pronouncing the L in almond is on the increase, unfortunately. I was always taught to pronounce it without the L.

You don't get prostrate cancer !!!!!!, being horizontal is not a diagnosis !

And I never believe a word that anyone says if they preface the statement with " in all honesty".
