    Hey everyone

Just another update from us. We had our demo meeting yesterday that was fun. It was amazing to see the finished product with flooring down.

So the demo meeting lasted about an hour and a half, they showed us round the whole property and showed us how everything worked. Some was very self explanatory as in this is a light switch etc but also how to work the heating, showers etc. After reading everything on these forums we were ready to spot some big issues but other than some cosmetic paint touch ups there wasn't anything major. They made a list of the little things and reassured us it'll be done by Friday.

So Friday is the day and we are itching to get the keys now. We're pretty much all packed. (Although the particularly taxing jobs in putting off ha). Our sales lady advised us to ask the solicitor to transfer the money to them Thursday night that way when head office get in in the am it should be sat in their account, they then complete all the legals so by the time she starts at 10:30 we can hopefully just get the keys. This is our first ever house purchase so she was advising just to wait for the call to pick up the keys. She told us a horror story of someone who arranged for sky etc to be there on the day all services pitched up at 9am then the banks did final credit check turned out buyer had opened new credit cards gone in a spending spree and lender wouldn't lend on completion day so buyer never got in! What an awful awful thing to happen!

Two more shifts at work and then 2 and a 1/2 weeks of new homebuyers shopping and flat pack furniture building awaits!
  • We went down to our site again today and did our customer information survey where they went through all the detailed plans of the house and the development.

We've booked our options meeting in for next Saturday which is quite exciting!

Was slightly annoyed as our valuation was supposed to be carried out Tuesday just gone but the surveyor 'forgot' about it and so it's now booked for this coming Thursday. Fingers crossed it comes back ok.

We got our keys on Friday and we are in. It's all been a bit of a mad blur with not much sleep a lot of visitors and flat pack building. We are so happy to be homeowners at last after the 6 month wait and the years of saving for deposit. So glad I started this thread to have like minded people to share the wait with. Good luck to everyone else!
  • So, things have been a bit hectic so I haven't updated in a while but.... we moved in over the weekend!

Top tip for anyone moving into a new build soon - unless your putting curtains up in the bedrooms on your first day, take some bluetac and black paper to cover the windows else you won't get much sleep!

Congratulations everyone that has moved in!

We had an offer on our house as part of the part ex deal today. Just deciding whether to take it. We will be stretching ourselves but over time I guess that gets better as our jobs get better, etc. My other fear is you exchange so much in advance of completion, what if one of us loses our jobs or something random before we even get in the house, or I change my mind, haha. All things to think about tonight.

So, a few nervous days post referendum and worrying about the impact of that upon the house purchase all dissipated on Saturday when I got to take another look round the house. It's amazing how far forward it's come since the pre-plaster. The kitchen units are in and looking great. Huge relief to see them in situ and know that the finishes and tiles I chose all look good together. Same for the tiles in the bathrooms.

Spotted a few things that need snagging but I'm sure they'll catch them before completion and if not the snagging survey will. Also they've started work on the garage which wasn't started at pre-plaster. Size looks good and bigger than I was expecting.

Good point about the curtains. I'm planning to sleep in the spare room until I get new furniture for the master bedroom, fortunately it's a Velux style window so I have the code and will order blinds before I move.

All in all I'm really buzzing about the whole thing and can't wait to move in, just a shame work means I have to wait until September to do so, but completion will happen by the end of the next month.

I'm slightly concerned today as we are potentially buying on a new site and 2 other houses had sold. One has fallen through so now only 1 other house has sold. This scares me! What if we are paying too much as one of the first, or nobody else buys and they stop building!

I'm not sure why the "what if they stop building" part worries you. I lived on a new build estate and it was like living in a goldfish bowl - houses overlooking eacother in every possible direction.

You're buying a new build, so you're paying over the market value anyway. If paying too much is a worry, then buy a second hand new build - one that's <10 years old. New builds are like buying cars, as soon as you purchase it, it loses money. There's often teething issues with new builds too. Settlement cracks, workmanship problems and snag listing items that get swept under the carpet. Buying a (used) new build you usually find the previous owner has ironed out any problems.

Well it worries me because if they stop building the land will get sold and it could get sold to anyone, which I feel is something I can consider and worry about.

We bought our current house at 9 year old but I am ready for a change now and something that doesn't need anything doing to it. Our 9 year old house had way more issues than a new build possibly could I am sure!

Its being a while but I'll figure its time for an update from us!

Things are progressing rather well, the kitchen is now "in" although I don't know if that means entirely wired up, they've done some painting and we're apparently getting wardrobes even though we didn't ask for them! (I have no idea if this is true or if our sales advisor guy is just getting confused again)

They said its more likely to be August now (initial estimate June / July) which is a little disappointing as we really wanted to be in before we had to move into the in-laws flat in a couple of weeks.

How many site visits did people have? We haven't legitimately being on site at all through out this entire process and we really want to get in there and have a look around!
