Had a message from the sales lady today for final confirmation of my kitchen and bathroom choices, looks like they're going in next week at long last :D

    I've been Money Tipped!
We finally got our mortgage offer yesterday so are one step closer to exchanging yay!

Did our options and was pleasantly surprised to find out they turf the back as standard. My current new build (Bloor) and my parents (Redrow) that was an extra! Also nice little surprise when the sales lady told us we don't need to pay for an outside tap when originally we were told we did! What experiences have everyone had with these?

Managed to have a sneak peak from quite a distance not this weekend but the one before and it was up to the top of the ground floor!

I just want to exchange - we're over the deadline because we're also selling but at least we're getting closer.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for everyone waiting :)

So we've been away a fair bit of the last two weeks - the build hasn't progressed very much in that time but the houses around it all have roofs so we're looking at a lot of progress expected to happen in the next 10-15 days.

We did the fixtures and fittings last week and finalized all the choices, adding in a few last minute LED down lights as I don't fancy pulling the thing to pieces to add it later.

Alas, I should be ecstatic, we exchanged this morning - but i'm not. I'm really tired and my solicitors is responsible for a lot of that feeling - its almost resent that they can be so nonchalant about someone's home - about the fact we broke the chain and they didn't seem to have any form of urgency in getting it sorted.

I just hope they wait a little while before they send me a bill, I am not sure I have the patience not to rip them to shreds over how they have been in this process.

Oh well, house to pack and tidy now - two main moving days in the next 11 before we have to be out. At some point i'll be in a good mood about all this - most likely when the solicitor has been paid and they are no longer part of the equation ;)
  • Hello, little update from me - exchanged contracts today yippee! Completion due for end of September/mid October. The wait is going to be excruciating!

It's a great relief when it happens isn't it! Perversely I wish mine was completing when yours is as I would be in the country. Instead mine is currently predicted for the end of July when I start working abroad for 8 weeks. I'll be paying the mortgage before I've spent a night there!

Last night we got our first look inside our new home to be!

The lady from Redrow went round and explained everything and how to control the heating etc.

There are a few snagging points (to be expected) and they have put a cupboard where a dishwasher is meant to be in the kitchen, and they have put the wrong door handles on the internal doors. Nothing drastic at least.. they are going to get as much done before we get the keys friday.. but I'm assuming the rest will need to be done once we've moved in.

It was interesting to hear how in a new build not to paint/decorate any walls or hang anything or put anything up against the walls for the first year. I thought it would just be a few months.

Overall really excited to get the keys and do the full snagging list Friday morning; (we're then away at a wedding for the weekend) The carpet fitters are coming Monday morning & we'll be collecting a van & moving in Monday/Tuesday! :j

Didn't get any internal pics last night, but can finally share the front and the garden now it's finished here's a sneak peek...

Interesting about the no decorate rules - interesting as not all builders have the same limitations and I can't see its anything more than the builder making sure that if there is any snagging and fixes that are needed then they don't want to be responsible for putting it back to your decoration rather than the 'standard'.

On that basis we see it as an okay to decorate as long as its just paint and we acknowledge that we will need to make good post any snagging work that is done.

Or did we miss something? Did they say anything more on it?

    Nice looking house btw!

Basically she said the paint on the walls currently is 4 parts water 1 part paint, so its very very thin; this is because the plaster is still wet underneath so for the first year while it dries properly and the house settles don't put anything up against / on the walls and allow it to fully dry. She also said about keeping the ventilation things in the windows open (Can't remember what technical name she gave them)
Then after a year we can paint and start to put stuff up and also then touch up any minor settling cracks. Anything bigger than £1 coin we can get them to fix.

That was going to be my approach too. Especially as I wanted to paint while there was no floor down.
