jeyes fluid is pretty good. cats hate it and it does say on the tin not to clean out cat houses with it cos t keeps them away. i use the containers from chinese take outs, the foil ones, and leave it in strategic places all over the garden. works for me.xx

failing that, the water method afore mentioned is very satisfying xx

as an after thought, my mum and my nan used to put pepper down.

I've tried jeyes fluid as well, with some success. The smell isn't pleasant, but alot more pleasant than cat c r a p
  • Hi can anyone give me ideas on how to keep cats off my garden, last year I sowed my seed only to find that the cat (not mine) dug up seeds and seedlings  I have tried to cover most of the garden with net but once the plants start growing I have to take it off then the cat comes and uses my garden, not very nice when I am going to be eating the produce. :o Thanks

One thing i have found helps some, is putting twigs around the plants, as the critters who use my beds as a toilet only visit at night. and they don't seem to like the ones with twigs. I just move the twigs around as the plants grow. Once the plants are a decent size it becomes less of a problem.

Plant lavender, leave citrus peel around the area they use most often. There are also commercial gadgets for scaring cats away but I don't know anything about them. On thing you could do is get a dog!

Fantastic, an opportunity to rant about foul cats and their habits! We are getting more and more cats round us and they poo in my veg beds, it drives me mad. The cheek of it! And, I have a dog! It doesn't seem to stop them at all, they come in the early mornign before the dog is up.... This evening I had the satisfaction of spotting one in the lane on the other side of our garage, so I crept along the garage and threw water at it! It missed, but scared the cat away, and it was SOOOO satisfying!

Also, the dog eats the cat poo (which I think is the worst smelling poo ever, incidentally) and then I have to keep the kids away from the dog... It really is the most annoying thing, isn't it?

I'm going to try the orange peel and buy a huge water pistol...

Please help as my husband is fed up with my cat wetting and pooing on the grass and flowerbeds. There are big round dead grass patches were the cat is keeping wetting and then on stoned areas is were the cat likes to go and poo! Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Try putting a few drops of distilled white vinegar in your cats water bowl every day... It's said to nutralise the acidity in the urine and lessen the likelyhood of brown patches appearing.

not quite sure how the above works when I've also read that cats dislike the scent of vinegar even after it's dried....
you can keep cats away by soaking several recycled rags in full strength white distilled vinegar and place them on stakes around the garden. resoak the rags every 7-10 days.

I shall be giving that ago.

Have you tried holly yet? Give it a go, in cuttings 12" - 18" and lay them all over the areas they enter your garden as well as all the parts they soil. They soon get fed up with having to pick their way through prickly bedding. If you don't have Holly, then use brambles and lay it as thick as is possible.

    Good luck.
