The story to date:
Things I've tried that didn't work:
1. Water-filled plastic containers
2. Ultrasonic deterrent
3. "silent roar" lion-dung infused fertiliser
4. Mulching with dense woody materials
5. Human hair
6. Lemon peel
Yesterday I did a lot of pruning which has left a large area of my border exposed! Eek!
I've now tried the following and will let you know how they work:
1. The mesh from a disposable barbecue (this can't fail to work for the area it covers, unless the cat is descended from wolverine, but it is a bit ugly and won't protect the whole area)
2. Bits of chopped up garlic
3. Bits of pruned bramble stalks scattered over the area
4. Random rocks scattered over the area0 -

Say bye bye to the cats
Make sure you clear the area first and also the smaller the bits of garlic the better and just sprinkle all round the garden. We have lots of cats in our neighbourhood and now they dont use my garden. They might start again in the future but soon as you see them using your garden as a litter tray just do it again. I havent had to re-treat my garden for quite some time now, so for bout 50p i think its money well spent0 -
My problem isn't cat poo but cats spraying by my front door which stinks!
I cured the problem of cats in my back garden by shooting every one I saw with a water pistol, they soon got the hint! but I can't do the same with the front door as I can't see when they are out there like I can the back.
I too have tried everything! Bleach, pepper, vinegar, lemon, citrus, chilli, bottles with water, cd's for their reflection, cat repellent sprays, plants, things to make noise, moth balls... nothing has worked! There is even one now that lays on my front path crying like a baby at 5am! Argh!
I don't want or have a cat and can't have a dog and I certainly don't want to be smelling cat pee everytime I open my front door, not to mention its embarrasing when anyone visits.
Short of poison I've run out of ideas!!0 -
Do dogs hate Jayes fluid because some horrible bloke daily lets his dog poo right in the middle of the pavement in front of our driveway (and its always really wet dhorreah pooh so he never cleans it up fully). Come school home time my kids have walked it in my house. I have confronted him and he does not care less.
I often bleach the pavement so my kids dont walk it in but it does not put him off.
So what do dogs hate. Do they hate Jayes fluid? Anything else (sorry this thread is too long to look through each page and i have scanned it and not found a good solution. Can anyone help?0 -
Garlic has done the job here, no new 'activity' for a week so far.0

The story to date:
Things I've tried that didn't work:
1. Water-filled plastic containers
2. Ultrasonic deterrent - seems to work sometimes but not others (I can hear it when it's activated so I know it's not broken - perhaps there is more than one cat, one with worse hearing?)
3. "silent roar" lion-dung infused fertiliser
4. Mulching with dense woody materials
5. Human hair
6. Lemon peel
7. Bits of chopped up garlic
8. Cuttings from my brambles (the cats worked out how to push them away before pooping)
9. Rocks
10. Pepper/mace
The only thing that's worked consistently is the barbecue mesh.
Things I'm about to try:
1. Spreading newspaper over my flower bed and pinning it in place with lots of bamboo cane cut-offs about 6 inches long.
2. Jeyes fluid0 -
Surely if you say the cat attacked you, you could do whatever you wanted to it
Pretty sure a cat comes under the same law as a dog, where it has to be kept under control. After all the cats are putting my child at risk by doing a poo in my garden

Fine in principle, but cats are very different animals to dogs - I think the two are distinguished in the law, since you can train dogs and they're supposed to be under your control, whereas cats are independent animals that can't have your will enforced upon them. Say "sit" to a cat, and it will look at you as if you're mad!
Unless you used the "invisible leash" option (a collar that emits an electric shock when the animal tries to vacate the property) or shut the cat indoors all day, both of which seem a bit cruel to me, I can't see any way a cat owner could "control" their cat.0 -

Then it should be against the law to allow cats outside, unless owners can guarantee to keep them captive. As it is, most cat owners are selfish individuals who don't give a damn.0 -
