I keep meaning to try one of these but they're quite expensive. Why should I have to fork out money just to defend myself against irresponsible and inconsiderate neighbours' cats? I'm sure the water spray device would work if it covered the entire zone you want protected, with water. But for how long? It's quite complex. The weather outside is hostile. After 1 or 2 years it might stop working and then you'd have to fork out a second time.0 -
I had the cat poo problem too. The man who moved in nest door had 4 cats and they all used my garden all summer. It is a real pain. Every time I went to hang out the washing I had to go out with a spade first to collect the poo. I chucked it straight back over the fance but he didn't seem to take any notice. The stink was so bad that I couln't sit in the garden in the little warm weather we had last year.
I bought catapoult (it is a spray that is supposed to deter the cats) you spray it where they use the grass for a toilet. £6.99 and it didn't work. I bought a load of grapefruits and we had them for breakfast every morning then I put the skins all round the lawn. That didn't work.
Then the owner of the house wanted to sell and the tenant and all his b####y cats had to go. Hurray. He didn't have permission to keep pets apparantly.
He also had a dog which he kept in the house whcih barked all the time he was out. That was annoying but the cats were worse.
I do hope the next owners don't have cats.Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination:beer:

I have been looking online for a deterrent and have tried the ultrasonic sensor and pepper, neither work!!
First slightly dilute the Jeyes in water and sprinkle with watering can over the infected areas once the mess has been cleared.
Then periodly soak tea bags in concentrated Jeyes Fluid and place under areas they have soiled in the past. You must replace periodically and works great!! I just cant find any Jeyes Fluid at the moment :mad:0 -
Several people seem to have had success with this type of strong garlic. I've tried our local pet shop and they have never heard of it. Does anyone know exactly what it is called, and where you can buy it?
Thanks
Geoff
Fresh garlic from tescos or wherever you shop, very cheap and very effective way to rid cats from pooping in your garden
Sorry, I keep saying the same thing in this forum but beleive me fresh garlic is the only solution which I have found which works0 -
Possible Cat Deterrents Found on The Internet
1. Try a solution of witchhazel or cinnamom oil or menthol which you pour around the plants or on the gravel. I have had success with this. About a 0.2% solution or 2 mls. per liter should do it and a couple of drops of dish detergent will be needed to disperse it. Repeat this every couple of weeks.
2. Lion/Tiger dung. Once your neighbourhood cats catch the whiff of a *real* cat, they'll stay well away. You might be able to get some from your local zoo, animal sanctuary or Safari Park
3. However we have been told, that strategically placed used teabags with a few drops of Olbas Oil on them will deter
4. Get a couple of old 2 litre plastic lemonade bottles, half fill them with water (so they don't blow away) and leave them lying around in the garden
5. Cocoa shell mulch all over the beds and this has stopped them completely
6. Water pistol - Prickly prunings on flower beds. - Oil of citronella
7. Cocktail sticks, just plant them upright 5 or 6 inches apart in your beds, borders and pots and if a cat comes along to do its business it'll get a sharp reminder that it's not welcome
8. DIY cat scarer on the basis of a water spray using a PIR sensor. I have put the plans up on a web page at http://www.mcs.surrey.ac.uk/Personal/csx1jw/cs.htm
It's fairly costly, but if you're desperate it'll probably be the next best thing to a shotgun!"
9. Last of all get a cat of your own

Haven't read all the threads but here's what I did a few years ago AND IT WORKED. We had loads of shingle delivered and every cat from about a 10 mile radius thought it was just for them!! Talk about a stink! We tried pepper, Jeyes fluid, bleach, holly leaves and just about every potion you could buy over the counter to deter cats. None worked!
Quarter cup Castor Oil (Cheap and from chemists)
2 tablespoons liquid detergent
Blend together in blender.
Add 6 tablespns water. Blend again.
Use 2 or 3 tablespoons of this in a gallon of water. I use a watering can and give the area a good old soak.
I had a huge area to cover and kept making batches of this. DO REMEMBER TO CLEAN YOUR BLENDER THOROUGHLY AFTER USE!!0 -

eh!! how does this work does'nt it want to make cats pee more!! my flower bed seems to be the only decent cat digging area in the street - i am also one of the very few non cat owners in the area - i dont mind the felines attending to nature - but why do they have to dig up my bulbs and bedding plants.:mad:Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0 -
If you know the place/places where the cat/s come into your garden and if it likes a particular place to 'take a weight off itself' (!!) then get some holly clippings (about a foot long) and lie them all around the areas. They might get pricked once, but with luck they won't come back for a 2nd dose! Same with water hoses
IF you get the chance to blast the little ***s, but if you do then soak 'em....they hate it!!!
Someone said about using Moth Balls.....BUT....how about using CATS instead!!!:T
