Thanks for the good wishes everyone :) Got a good feeling about Tuesday. And thank you MichaelS for your very kind offer; I'll be keeping it in mind!

So CK is after an insurance expert, GDB needs an HR professional... I actually could do with an accountant for a quick query but I don't think we have one now do we? I know Chewy is but I don't think he's posted for quite a while now.

OH is an accountant, though working in industry now. Ask away.

Typical British workmen - even though they've mostly spent the morning watching and standing around waiting for the next bit .... they're all now on an extended break.

Anybody else here have an account with Coop Bank? I have noticed that some payments away from the bank that would normally go through immediately are now being held up for a day or two, because of "security checks" which are obviously unrelated to their well-known financial difficulties.

I think that I am going to have to transfer elsewhere before they shut up shop completely. Where is good for an online current account + deposit account?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I have been with them nearly 30 years, but I don't log on/check things very often... so can't compare notes.

Well, didn't expect that. Houses next door are nearly there!

It doesn't take long to bung up lego houses :rotfl:

The timber inner structures are all made offsite as kits which simply need assembling.
It then takes longer to wrap them with bricks and tiles on the outside, plaster on the inside, add windows/doors, hook up the services and decorate.

I wondered if they'd scaffold/build one set, then start the next lot, but they seem to be building everything (9 of them) all at the same rate of progress. Maybe they'll drop off a bit later.

It makes sound sense to do them all at once - order all the scaffolding in one go, all the timber carcasses in one go so the crane's only needed once.
Once the structures are up the brickies/tilers can come in for a week or two and do it all instead of going back and forth doing it piecemeal - likewise the plumbers, electricians, plasterers, etc.
Some of them will (if it's planned properly) overlap so, for example, the plumbers start at number 1 and progress to number 9. Once they've finished in number 1, the sparkies can move in and follow the plumbers through house by house, then the plasterers, etc.

I recently reoppened a new coop bank account as I think I will be eligible for their switching bonus of £110 (again). I also closed then opened a TSB account for a £125 switching bonus on the same day. Even if coop bank go broke it is only the bonus that is at risk.
I was staggered how long the scaffolding took to go up. 2½ weeks it's been! I have been watching to see how they go about it - I wondered if they'd scaffold/build one set, then start the next lot, but they seem to be building everything (9 of them) all at the same rate of progress. Maybe they'll drop off a bit later.

Did they still build wooden framed house - I thought they had a bit of a bad rep?

When we had our extension once the groundwork was done the walls and roof were very quick - then it seemed to really slow down once they started on the inside....
    I think....
