Insurance is a broad field - what sort of insurance?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

We did look at things like this in an outside of the box thinking kind of way but Joe really really dislikes bars, he doesn't have his age ID yet (waiting for him to get with the programme and ask his PPT to sign his passport application) and no one on this earth would ever believe he is coming up to his 19th birthday...he still looks like a 12 year old due to his size.

Plus, we all wanted to do the whole touristy thing of being able to say we went to the top, sad I know.

We even, on first viewing of the prices on the internet, thought about abandoning the idea and going for the Walkie Talkie building opposite which is free. Unfortunately there were not enough places available for all of us to do it. I think we would have had regrets though if there had been available places, the boys certainly would have been saying they wished they were up the top in the Shard.

Wasn't thinking of it for you as I don't think the bar is that wheelchair friendly. And with your carer discount it wouldn't have saved you money.

Walkie Talkie vs Shard is like visiting the rockafella centre in New York just because it has views of the empire states building!

There's an excellent view from the Walkie Talkie building! But I can't compare to the Shard, as I haven't been there.

A long time ago* I was crossing a bridge over the Thames on my way to see Gunther Von Hagen's Body World anatomy exhibition in Brick Lane, (which was fantastic by the way!), and suddenly I saw this amazing building, two-thirds constructed.

I stopped suddenly in my tracks, and my jaw really did fall. I think I exclaimed out loud, too! I had no idea what it was, but I had never seen anything like it. I stood there, riveted, for a few minutes, just looking at it.

I later found out it was what we now call The Gherkin.
A total misnomer, IMO. My very first thought was that it was just like a cigar. It should have been called The Cigar.

Very few buildings have had that sort of immediate impact on me.

I suppose it was the first of the weirdly-shaped modern buildings in London.

*must have been about 2002/3 then.

My brother calls the Gherkin building the dildo building!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I was going to say the idea of that makes my eyes water, but I don't think I'd better had.

I watched the Gherkin rise above the building line. It was so different, but it's disappearing among the new buildings already.

We have tickets for the sky garden next week. Kids go free at the Shard this week, but no use for my kids as they're off next week and DS is too old as well. Considering an afternoon tea at Ting to get better value for money.

I had drinks at Aqua last year on my birthday. We had a table in an amazing corner position. The view was breathtaking from even the 32nd floor.

London has a fine history of odd shaped buildings. What was known as The NatWest tower, when viewed from above, is shaped like the bank's logo. P!us you have the round BT tower, designed with its rotating restaurant, and the Lloyd's building... And the GLA building, which reminds me of a crash helmet...

Feeling sad. DS2 is going to move in with GF, they have found a property (not signed yet but all indications are its going ahead). Whereas we have had a couple of years of DS2 home in the long uni holidays only, this seems very final.

Also, I never considered DS1 as having permanently moved out as he is sharing with a group of friends rather than alone/ as a couple; DS2 going makes DS1's likelihood of returning less likely.

All seems very quick, finished uni in September, job in December, leaving in March. My head's spinning.
