Thinking of you, Sue. I'm glad you were calm about it; I'm not really good at that. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0

I made a post earlier this morning but it's disappeared. Or more likely I forgot to press 'submit reply' after previewing it.
Never mind. Can't be bothered to re-write it.
This is new though:-
I've got catkins!
I've had four trees in pots in my garden for a few years. They were supposed to be in pots only temporarily, pending my doing stuff with the garden.
Well, you can guess the rest.
Anyway, one of these trees is a hazel, and now, for the first time, it is bearing catkins!
They look lovely on the bare branches!
I might get a few hazelnuts later! I hope so, as I love fresh hazelnuts. Didn't see any in the shops this year.
It's still only a tiny tree, being in a pot - barely taller than me and I prune them all to keep them small anyway.
I have two oaks which I grew from acorns. They are about 25 years old, and are in large pots, and I keep them to about 4 ft high including the pot.
I call them my giant bonsais!(I just lurve spiders!)

Happy 2017 to all NPs and lurkers!
Well had a nice long drive yesterday, zipping through Inner Herts and GDB's side of London. Roads pretty much empty. I have learned that London (and many other places) has loads of convenience stores and petrol stations that are open on New Years Day, and that buses still run (but don't seem to have many passengers). There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

Was quite taken aback by how bright the planet Venus was. It was next to the moon for our whole journey, and it looked so close at first I thought it was just a plane. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0

Who would have thought people could face more food today. Brunch for 44 people and there were hardly any left overs.

Ah, thanks very much. We saw the moon and a really bright "star", and we thought it was too bright actually to be a star. It did look lovely! No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0
