Ah, thanks very much. We saw the moon and a really bright "star", and we thought it was too bright actually to be a star. It did look lovely!

Anything that's too bright to be a star...........

    Is it moving?
    If yes.......it's the ISS.

    If no........It's Venus!

Have you that many chairs? :D

Brunch - people don't all come at the same time. Hopefully. Plus, some people might be happy standing.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Easy to see why it's often referred to as the evening star.

It's also the morning star but I don't think I've ever seen it look as good in the morning.

Downstairs we have 16 dining chairs, 4 barstools, 2x 4 seater and 2 x 3 seater sofas...and an office chair and a piano stool - still couldn't seat 44 unless we got the garden furniture and put it in the garage.....
    I think....

We had seats for about half, people arrived and left at different times and most were happy to stand for some of the time. Our layout means that we have lots of rooms, but none very big, so people tended to roam from room to room.

Theoretically, the dining room has 8 chairs, the lounge 3 seater + 2 seater + foot stool. Kitchen has 4 bar stools plus 4 chairs round kitchen table. TV room has 2 seater plus 1 or 2 on the love seat. Then we have 6 folding chairs + 4 old chairs in the garage that can be wiped down and brought into service.

Was quite taken aback by how bright the planet Venus was. It was next to the moon for our whole journey, and it looked so close at first I thought it was just a plane.

Ah! I thought the same as GDB that it was too bright to be a star, and didn't 'twinkle' so must be a planet, didn't know which one though. Quasar once posted a website that you could put in a date and time and it would show you the positions of stars and planets at that point, it was awesome but I can't remember what it was called.

Happy new year to all NPs! I returned to the Metropolis via Inner Herts so I'm sure I passed a fair few of you. It was a bit strange coming back today as there were so many people (including myself!) obviously returning from home outside the city with back packs and suitcases. I had a lovely weekend in the Peak District to celebrate NY with friends, so feeling very lucky to have them.

2016 was a year of two halves for me. The first half of the year I had my lovely Inner Herts Girlfriend and a good job (also in inner Herts!), which though I didn't particularly enjoy was quite well paid and would be a good stepping stone - and I now have neither. It's surprising how quickly things can deteriorate.

So, hoping for good things from 2017, I'm feeling optimistic, which is half the battle!

Big parties in my parents' house always used to end up with lots of people sitting on windowsills. But that was in a Victorian house where the windowsills are low enough and wide enough for sitting on. In my current house, I don't think sitting on windowsills would be very practicable.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Sorry to hear the second half wasn't so good. Hoping for improvements in 2017 for you - would a great new job and delightful new girlfriend hit the spot for you?

Thanks! A new job is essential for my well being, financially and mentally, relationship not so much. So as long as I can sort the job out... Not desperate for a relationship really! If I meet the right person then yes.
