    Wow, you're winning, Pyxis!

Did they start the whole 24 opening thing in the 90s? I remember much bigger queues back then, but maybe it was just living in London and things being busier in general. I remember dumping a trolley really late at night because we couldn't be doing with the queue and a newish baby.

We have a new M&S with a 'secret' carpark that many people haven't found yet. I parked on Thursday in one of the nearest bays to the Foodhall door and there was loads of choice despite the place being really busy.

I've been trying to think about the 24hr opening thing. I don't think it was a a early as 1994/5...... Marks just opened really early on Christmas Eve, mainly for people who had ordered turkeys etc.

It may have been later in the 90s or maybe early 00s. Not sure.

Also, I'm not sure sure if Sunday opening was in then, either. Plus they had that thing of only being able to buy booze within licensing hours, even if the rest of the shop was open. Can't remember when that changed to all day.

A secret carpark eh? Sounds intriguing! :D

    lobster ... prefer bare crab....
Food uncovered did lobsters/price earlier this week... and how come Lidl can flog them at £6.

For crab, I was looking for crab pate in A5da the other day - shelf empty ... but I did see they sell little pots of what seemed to be just crab meat, for £3 (from memory). As I wasn't in the game for crab, I was there for crab pate at £1, I didn't investigate what was actually in the pot.... but if you like crab, it might be worthwhile looking that crab meat up online just so you know.

Right. I have to go. Cig papers. "Oh, but you could've got those before" you might say - I TRIED!! I've been to Sainsbobs twice to get them and they had sold out .... so I'm off to try again now and if they don't then I'll do a 12 mile round trip to Mr T to see if they've got any and to see if they've got the Orkney crab pate the Internet says they stock.

As the man said ...."I could be gone some time".....

and a selection box of malt whiskies,

    If you like malt whisky, I can thoroughly recommend this from my local distillery;

    https://www.lakesdistillery.com/search/the-one

It's not a malt, but rather a (the only) blend of selected whiskies from all the countries of the British Isles, however it is really rather good - it's the nearest blend I've found to a malt.

Roll on 2018, when their own Lakes Malt finally becomes available.

    Thanks! I'll look into that!

It's interesting, this latest fashion for local gins. There is a very new, very small and very local distillery near me making a local gin, but there's only one place sells it within striking distance, and I can never find a parking place. I drove past it this morning on my way home, thinking, that at ten to nine in the morning it wouldn't be open, but as I passed it, I saw it was open! Couldn't be bothered to turn round and hunt for a space, too much coming and going in both directions.

Right. Achieved, in a slow/long meandering way. Sainsbobs was mental! So I didn't even park (queues waiting for people who hadn't even left the shop to come to their car and vacate). I drove out to Mr T.

Mr T had the long life bread I like to buy (best by 1 January). But they had no Orkney crab pate (the assistant even checked the warehouse area).

There were some reduced items, but nothing that grabbed my attention except a 20p mini crustless quiche and for 60p a big "teryaki noodle" bowl which will be nuked for tea (not really sure what to expect/never had one).

I then just drove home; not too much traffic on the roads....

I've no plate for my dinner to go onto - well, I've "a plate", but I'd have liked a santa one of the right proportions .... and I've no glass for drinking from. I don't bother with glasses as I don't drink... however, bizarrely, I do seem to have embraced a strange desire to buy a £1.49 bottle of Bucks Fizz from A1d1 and, this morning, a bottle of Schloer (hated the fact there was choice, but plumped for the Rose one).

    Oh well.

No sausage rolls have been purchased - I kept leaving it.... I might wander out later to buy some; I might not.

Just peeled/sliced the spuds to make mash - which is now nuking.

Also, just remembered, found it "necessary" to pick up a pack of 3 plastic "food saver" pots - just round plastic pots with lids on. £1. I figured they'd do great for making mini trifles and, in the future, jelly/fruit, as they've got lids.

    EDIT 1.45:
Mash is now mashed, cooled and in the fridge.
Swede has been cooked and is about to be scooped out/mashed.
Carrot's peeled and in a pot in the fridge.

Made a list of the dates of all perishables, so I don't forget/misjudge one.

Turkey's looking/smelling great. Truth be told it's probably just about cooked as it's had nearly 5 hours and it is a small boneless one.

All clearing up, washing up etc has been done (again, it's never ending isn't it).
