I did once have to send in a certified photocopy of the degree certificate to an embassy for a work visa application... But that's it in 25 years.
Nor me... until this job. Cue much sorting through boxes. And a fair bit of swearing:o. It didn't help that I'd forgotten that I'd given my Masters certificate to my parents as they couldn't make it on the day, so it wasn't even in the same house. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

I was asked when I was working for someone else (public sector), and once for consultancy work, but apart from that, that's it.💙💛 💔0 -
I am called daily by a first name which is not on my birth certificate as its what I prefer to be known by but have never changed it officially. My DD changed her last name when she was 17. Very easy and very cheap. Not in time for her A level certificates but in time for her degree.Spend less now, work less later.0

It interests me that people care about there surname, I guess I am with Shakespeare(i think) on it 'would a rose be more lovely with a different name' - it is the thing that matters, not the random set of syllables we attach to it for language purposes.I think....0

Still feeling all very surreal at the moment, 10 years ago this would have seemed impossible, blimey, even just over 2 years ago it was a pie in the sky dream.
I don't think I have seen youngest smile so much, finally he is getting the recognition from others instead of family and a few at college...it's the speed of the York contact that has got us all flabbergasted, we (mainly youngest) didn't think he stood a chance to get any further than the initial application, let alone a response in less than 3 hours. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

Must be the week for nice news for the NP. DS2 has found his first proper job. It is based in Herts rather than London, so think he will be living at home for a while longer.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. There is no need for a deed poll. You can just decide to change your name, and that's it. Some sort of document might be helpful dealing with officialdom.
I know someone who had two children with her partner, who then unfortunately was killed in an accident. The children's surname was the father's, so in the end she changed her name to match theirs.
Even when I was a kid, people who chose to be called by a different name in the way you describe couldn't have the new name on their passport, even though they could change it on everything else. Back then, it was comparatively easy to do life even if the name on your passport was not the one you used for everything else, but I don't think that would work any more, because we are all asked for ID so much more often these days. Since my kids don't have driving licences and their passports are out of date, I have to produce their birth certificates every time I want to collect something from the Post Office sorting office on their behalf. I'll need DS's deed poll for that.
DS will definitely need a deed poll to get a passport and driving licence in his new name. After that he'll have his proof of ID, and can use that whenever he needs to. He'll only need his deed poll on very rare occasions when he has to show his birth certificate.
He will also need it in the short term to make changes. He'll have to send it to a couple of banks to change his savings account and mini-123 account. He'll probably also need it to get his school to switch. A divorced friend of mine had a lot of difficulty getting her kids' school to treat her kids as having her (maiden) name rather than her ex-husband's, even though it was a child protection issue for them not to be easily identifiable as his.Still feeling all very surreal at the moment, 10 years ago this would have seemed impossible, blimey, even just over 2 years ago it was a pie in the sky dream.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0
