Me too. A signal passed at danger is the only thing I know that gets that abbreviation.

Signal passed at danger would predate all the rest methinks ;)

That reminds me a a beautiful anomaly in the early Great Western Railway rulebook. Before the railways had standardised on signalling, etc, there were a few curious arrangements, often copied from harbour signalling.
Reading station had such a signal at the entrance, comprising a ball which was pulled up a pole when the station entrance was clear and lowered when it wasn't. The rulebook was vary clear about this - if the signal ball is visible, it is safe to pass it and enter the station. If the ball is not visible it is forbidden to pass it !!!

It always amazes me when people want to do jobs that ..... I have never, ever, heard of whatsoever before.

When I went to school the choices were simple. I was sat down for 2 minutes and asked: Do you want to be a nurse? a secretary? work in the factory? or work in a shop?

Boys were asked if they wanted to be a mechanic or join the army.

How/where do people even hear of these jobs .... ?

I still don't know what I want to do.

That's interesting, because I'm the complete opposite! Names that I have, or have given to others are incredibly important!
It's one reason why I didn't change my name on marriage. (Just as well, as I'd have had to change it back on the divorce! Hahahaha!)
Even my pets have had names that were deliberated over for a while. They have to sound nice, mean something nice, have 'nice' letters in them, and look 'nice' when written down.

I spent forever choosing my usernames on here and elsewhere! :rotfl:

    I know, I'm weird! :rotfl:

I'm like that too - apart from the visual appeal when written down - which isn't such a big deal to me. I am now curious to know how you chose "Pyxis" and what it means to you. So do tell, unless it would "out" your RL identity or otherwise compromise your privacy, in which case obviously not.

I seem to have initially overestimated how far DS had got along the "deciding" process. He is still considering and isn't sure how he's going to decide eventually.

I have an smallish, old tin trunk that is my 'treasure box' and contains all my certifcates, and historic personal stuff, like my very first (little red booklet) driving licence and my expired passports, newspaper cuttings with me in, some primary and secondary school exercise books, and other stuff like that, meaningful and/or milestone stuff.
(Not financial stuff, not photos, just "My Life" stuff).

Your first driving licence was a little red booklet? You must be older than I have been imagining you!

This was the only one of the list that I knew - comes of reading all my brother's extensive collection of Biggles books as a child!
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

My (married) name is really short, yet people still get it wrong.

I've never had a problem with my birth and degree certificates being in my maiden name.

DS1 requested an extension to his dissertation deadline when my parent died, his lecturer asked for a copy of the death certificate. We supplied this, but of course the surname was my maiden name rather than DS's surname. The lecturer didn't seem bothered, so I guess any death certificate of anyone who had passed around that time would have sufficed!
