PN touting for an xmas dinner invite again :)

I didn't think that would escape your attention. Not offering to rush round and check the measurements?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

PN, you know you can just go to M&S or John Lewis and get properly measured for free, with no obligation to buy anything.

michaels, OH's Xmas do was also last night....it would be a small world. He left early to let the youngsters enjoy without feeling their managers were watching. Woke up to phone messages about fights that had broken out etc.

Sue, I'm sure you know the first thing to do is register at the local student doctors.

Pyxis, I don't know where you live, but it may be worth checking whether your local library has an online reference collection. It could be a useful add on to your other fact sites.

It depends on the county/unitary authority, but most have things like..

    Encyclopedia Britannica
    Oxford English Dictionary
    Dictionary of National.Biography

You'd probably enjoy playing with Credo Reference too.

When you've finished with those, the CIA World Factbook is great too, but has its own website

    Thanks!

I didn't know that libraries had online resources! :)

PN, you know you can just ...
Didn't know that. I don't frequent those shops... indeed, where I was living the nearest JL was 90 miles away and "it's not in madam's pocket range" so I'd have not gone in even if passing :)

No idea where the nearest to me now would be....

As for M&S, last time I went in there it was because I NEEDED a suit - that day, for an interview the following day. I'd looked in a few shops but most shops don't carry a petite range and, of those that do, they only had one suit in petite (designed for somebody aged 20 by the looks of most of them). So I thought "M&S" - you can walk in there and get one... what could be harder?

Walked in, asked for their petite range and she said "Just pick a suit you'd like and we'll order it in for you". No... that's not how it works is it, you have to try them all on to see if they fit/suit you.... I didn't want to have to give them a list of suits, then do another 35 mile round trip up to a week later to try them all on, possibly reject them all and be back at square one :)

I won't get measured. Measurements only work for the shop you're in really .... so long as I've got one that gathers it all up and holds it pretty steady without digging into me and without a "cup overfloweth" I'm pretty relaxed about the size.

I hate clothes and clothes shopping .... I really do.

    Mrs Bucket?
    :)

Hehe. - I did like how, in one episode, Richard did say that his surname was actually pronounced like a pail and not a handful of flowers :rotfl:

It has all calmed down now, but for a couple of days it had all kicked off in the Arms.

I tell you, it's sooooo nice to come to this thread where you know people will be nice to each other! :)

And any madness is 'nice' madness, IYSWIM! ;)

Many years ago, I was scared to go into The Arms. It was very cliquey. I do go now, but try to stay away from threads that look as though they could turn toxic.

Too many people get dragged into, or put themselves into slanging matches; then end up being PPRd.

It does seem to be at its worst when there's alcohol involved.

Don't think I've ever bothered to go there, DTs bad enough at times.

Yes, I was going to say, usually the Arms per se is ok. You get the odd bit of vitriol, but you get that on lots of threads.

If you really want fisticuffs for the sake of fisticuffs, DT is the place!

I do sometimes post in DT, if there's something I feel I have to say, but I'm very careful how I say it! :D Plus I have one hand on the doorknob at all times! :rotfl:
On the odd occasion that someone slams back at me, I usually ignore it. It doesn't often happen, though! (My posts on there usually get ignored! :rotfl:)
There are some threads in DT that can be interesting, but otherwise it's usually same old same old.

What is quite funny is how a thread on a relatively innocuous subject can turn into a benefits or Brexit slanging match!

On another, rather random note, one thing I've noticed in my posts on here is that I usually end up repeating one word an awful lot.

In this post it's 'usually'! :rotfl:

I've just posted this on a thread about mistletoe in the Arms, but I thought it was quite interesting so have shamelessly copied it to post here too, being an example of 'random information' so beloved on here! :) ...........

There's some interesting mistletoe info on this site........

    http://www.whychristmas.com/customs/mistletoe.shtml

    http://mistletoe.org.uk/homewp/index.php/distribution/british-mistletoe/

Apparently the word mistletoe derives from the Anglo-Saxon mistel meaning dung, and tan meaning twig or stick. This is because the seeds are spread in bird poo that lands on the tree's branches.

So mistletoe means 'poo on a stick'!

Try saying "Come and have a kiss under the poo on a stick, darling"! :rotfl:
