I used to know someone who liked ironing so much that she even used to iron her J-cloths! (a brand of cleaning cloth, for anyone who doesn't know - I'm not sure if they still exist)

I think they do, but haven't bought any for a long time, the supermarkets' own ones do the job just as well. Come/came in a hexagonal tubular box didn't they?

Ironing them though? Way OTT, I just drape 'em over the kitchen tap till they're dry ;)

co-op lover I hope your water is back on now! Do you keep any bottled water to hand in case of emergency?

We had two Wells at the Bexhill on Sea home...one was fully functional and was next to the rear conservatory..5 metres deep....and less than 50cm away from the wall with a gully in front for draining off when it rained as the property was on a slope at the rear and defo a hill on the front garden....very handy when the water was off or hose ban...we had a pump for it so that made the bucket and rope redundant......miss that Well and would love to have one dug here some day .BW Dianne

The equivalent brand in Aus is called Chux which I think is a great name for a disposable cloth.

What a glorious day! 24C and beautifully sunny. We went out for drinks after work too down by the harbour which was good and I ended up chatting to two of my most interesting colleagues.

One of them was telling a story about Lasseter's Reef. Lasseter worked in Redfern (think Stepney in London) and claimed in 1930 that he had found a lost gold deposit in the desert on the border between the Northern Territory and Queensland. This is an area which is seriously in the middle of nowhere, one of the most remote places on the planet ex-Antarctica.

He persuaded the Labor Government to get the Unions to put up a bunch of money to go and find this lost gold deposit which had never existed.

    You dispose of them?

I put them in the washing machine.

I'm in shock that michaels would pay £60 for an iron, thinking he got a good deal because the list price is higher.

I put them in the washing machine too but most Aussies chuck them in the bin.

Actually I bought a pack of 50 microfibre cloths for about $3 on special a few years back which I use to clean the house. They are really good and were about the same price as a packet of Chux.

My iron cost about £60. I find it hard to use anything that isn't cordless. My last one was similarly expensive, but did last for over 20 years before being replaced. I have one of these:

I thought it was just me that washed stuff like that. Maybe it is another NP trait.

Ours was a couple of models up from this one:

Steam generator irons are twice as quick as normal ones, when you insist on ironing as much as DW then that is a saving of 4-5 hours a week.
    I think....
