Other bad news was as my train let St Pancras today it stopped then limped into Kentish town - after many promises that we would be on the move (always in another 20 minutes) and 1 hour later they then told us all to get off and couldn't tell us if all trains were cancelled or only our one so tube back to London then a very overcrowded train to Hatfield - plus of course my phone battery died. Home eventually at 8.15 and I have an early meeting tomorrow
Edit: And the worst thing - I finished my book on the way in this morning so for nearly 3 hours all I had to 'read' was the metro

All these worms were high on gas?No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Our super-dooper top of the range steam generator iron tripped the rcd today.
Good news is we bought in on 5th August last year.
Bad news is we only paid £60 for a £250 iron so I bet mr T Direct will just offer us our money back rather than a repair/equivalent replacement (it was end of line hence the price).
Who spends £250 on an iron? You can get all your ironing done for you for a year for that amount. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

I don't know if this helps anyone's family history search..
The British Library has announced the addition of the Western Chronicle, 1886-1927, and Belfast Evening Telegoraph 1871-1898 to its searchable British newspaper archives. I have access if I can help out.
So much easier than going through microfilm for hours. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Can one read them online, or is it just search or fee-based?
The Western Chronicle might be worth random searching/browsing.
Sometimes, it's easier to live with having no access, than to be able to search and see there's something you can't get at without physically visiting a building 200 miles away - and if you're idly browsing and something catches your eye you're not going to do that.
I like to type random words into the searches and then spot bizarre/sad/unusual reports to read. Like yesterday, teacher and 4 kids drowned on school camping holiday in Devon in 1924.... which I then left a postem on freebmd about, giving people the outline/names and source for more info. I figure this might aid somebody searching for somebody where the death is in an unexpected location + it'll let people searching for those names know if it's the death they're looking for. e.g. if you've four results in a freebmd search it could help somebody eliminate one of them as being not theirs.0 -
Ironing? Wossat, then?
I can do irony, is that similar?
Ironing is something the poorly prepared do. I don't own an iron. If it needs ironing, I don't use it
Firstly, buy clothes that won't need ironing.
Secondly, when washed, hang/dry them on hangers and pull them straight when wet/damp.
Thirdly, a lot of stuff never needs ironing: nightwear, sheets, duvet covers, pillowcases, towels, jeans, jumpers.... so don't get sucked in.
I guess it also helps that I don't have many clothes, so none of them are squished/creased hanging0 -
Not free of charge PN, but might be from a local library, or could be one of the sources that gets linked to next time you get a free day. As in don't be surprised if you do a search, and something new pops up.Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I used to know someone who liked ironing so much that she even used to iron her J-cloths! (a brand of cleaning cloth, for anyone who doesn't know - I'm not sure if they still exist)
co-op lover I hope your water is back on now! Do you keep any bottled water to hand in case of emergency?0
