My request to keep everything shut fell on deaf ears!

There are benefits to both things - when you do them will depend on the success.

If the sun's on the window then it's best if the curtains are closed. If the sun's not on the window then there can be a benefit to the window being open ....

He ignored you because "men know best"

Today I didn't open the kitchen blinds at all - and I closed the living room curtains until the sun'd gone from the walls ... then I opened the window once there was no direct sun so I could benefit from the draught.

It's still 83F/28.3C here .... outside and in it's the same - and the breeze isn't cooling as the wind is as hot as the air.

I just checked what it says. I know a man came and read the meters 2 weeks ago.... but there is some small print "calculations include estimated meter readings"

So maybe the annual summary is utterly useless.

But, it gives me two years' figures, which I'll give below.
    2014-2015: 2057 kWh
    2015-2016: 1524 kWh
But we did have a very mild winter, I hardly used the heating at all.

Leccy, same small print. 2 years' figures:
    2014-2015: 1512
    2015-2016: 1711

These figures are fully correct as I've had the house two years and those figures represent the day I bought the house to today... so no starting with any estimated figures.

I only put it on when absolutely necessary, for the minimum time. I stay under a blanket the whole of winter to keep as warm as possible.
Modern house, well insulated, so it doesn't use much ... and I only have the rad on in the living room - rest are set low just so the heat trickles through/so the system doesn't jam up.

Because you heat more rooms, for more hours, to a higher temperature... whereas, for electricity, it works differently as the extra is only individual things others in the house are using.

I understand why your gas bill is low. Just as long as you're not causing yourself health issues....
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I understand that, but twenty times as much???

Well ... if you had your heating on, say, every day the last winter.... for, say, 6 hours ... at, say, 20 degrees.

Then compared it to the maybe max 10x I had mine on for 2-3 hours to 16 degrees.

    That might cover it.

I did think of sitting in the car, air-con on full blast. But the mpg would drop.

I've been driving all day. I had the roof down. At about 1pm I put the air conditioning on my feet as well!

At 4pm, I gave up, put the roof up and the air con on.

I suncreamed up but I's pretty sure I've burned the skin where my hair parts.

How pee'd off would you be?

I just loaded zoopla to see if a particular house sale appeared on their yet; it didn't, but I thought I'd look anyway .... when I suddenly discovered another neighbour's house had sold. I also know they've not moved. So, there was "something odd" about that sale. He told me they were owners over a year ago, so he couldn't have been renting it. But, definitely the same people there today as have always been there and a spurious sale from 3 months ago showing up.

How pee'd off would you be if you were the sale I was looking for if you saw that and realised:

    3 beds + 2 baths + semi-detached + 2 parking spaces + reasonable sized garden at £Xk

    Yours:

2 bed + 1 bath + mid terrace + 1 parking spot + dinky garden at the same price?

I've seen remortgages pop up on sold prices. Could it be?

TBH, when I want to cool down I put the air con on. Works every time. It's great, a continuous blast of cooled air that may well be 20C cooler than the ambient temperature. Begone 40C+ days, welcome to Generali's 22C house.

I've taken to offering to drive people places....air con in the car works so so well.

Failing that, cold showers and baths, lots of them.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

    Could be.

I did see one sale listed where I knew the chap had inherited the house from his mother, so that must've been a remortgage.
