    Happy Birthday Wheezy!

I'm with you on the mussels _pale_

My dentist is a few minutes' walk away. I had an appointment for a checkup this morning.

The cat decided he was coming too  He's often followed me before, but usually sits down when we reach the end of our street and sits down to wait and see if I'm going to come back soon. This time he came all the way....and the surgery is on a busy main road!

I had to rush back home with the cat tucked under one arm, ringing OH en route to ask him to meet me at the gate so I could hand over the miscreant and dash back to the dentist's.

The staff were all in raptures at how cute he was. He even walked straight in when they buzzed the door open for me :D but I couldn't leave him outside to wait for me, in case he got run over (also he'd have yowled dreadfully).

    Happy birthday Wheezy :)

Locks changed. The chap turned up exactly when he said he would, sorted the lock, and he's re-alligned the door which has needed doing and probably resulted in the lock being dodgy in the first place.

Just picked up some whatsapp messages from Mr Spirit. The first asks me to hang out the socks in the washing machine, the second tells me has had a good flight met by a driver and given a warm welcome at the very nice hotel, the final straw is the photo of Abramovichs yacht from the hotel window.

Feeling grumpy.Bloody socks. If I hadn't already hung them out and brought them in again I just might bin them. I can always crisp them on the top of the stove I suppose.

    Cat sounds cute Ivy.

Car estimate PN £60, an hour of labour and some travel time.

OK, so, I phoned ... and I am covered for breakdowns at home - but - not for Home Starts.

He told me they could do it as a "one off" but there's a charge.

Without peeking/Googling, try to guess how much that was?

When do you need to go out? you could get carparts4less / eurocarparts to deliver a fully charged brand new battery for about 35 quid and about 5 minutes to fit (smile at nice neighbour/random handy man if required).
    I think....

Could the flat battery be as the result of a breakdown - for example ours was flat the other day because for some reason one door is not registering as closed so the internal lights are staying on. However our policy covers everything so I don't know what happens with yours in such circumstances...

I had that happen with my Scorpio.

It later turned out that in all probability it had been rear ended at some point in its life, not repaired properly, and the boot light was on constantly as 2 pieces of metal weren't touching.

In fact, that fact that it was probably a write off probably explained how it ended up in Russia (where it was bought) in the first place. Guy I bought it from bought it in Poland, but I found some German registration plates in the boot.

Long shot ..... clutching at straws I suspect :)
Wouldn't want to get myself into a position where I'm backed into a corner to get a fat bill.

I'm sure michaels will be along shortly with his jump leads :D

How long do batteries last these days? Car's 10 years old, I've owned it 6 years.

    About that long.

You can call out someone like Halfords, book them online and they will come and fit it for a fixed price.

Saying that I am slightly concerned that PN is going to say she lives nowhere near a Halfords fitting zone.

Just googling it. I'm sure any other random/local garage would probably do that too.... or a mobile mechanic.

They don't seem to do house call outs. You have to get the car to them.

They are 3, 5, 9 miles from me.

Battery, fully fitted, comes in at £85-170 for my car.

Halfords definitely do call outs and my local place also does.

Obviously if you need a new battery the existing one is dead, so it is a standard service.
