So, thinking about my friends, there are quite a few with 3 children and some with 4. We all lived in 2 or 3 bed houses before we had our first. looking at the few in the next generation that have already had a kid, a lot of them are in flats, sometimes 1 bedroom.

British Gas here - so the boiler decides to work. Fault undetected. :(

What a pain. Could it be the wind triggering a flu pressure sensor? I assume when it is dead it doesn't matter what you do with the controls it refuses to start? As well as the room stat does it have a stat/temp control on the boiler? Our old boiler the pcb was near the hot bit and a common fault was for some of the contacts to get brittle and make intermittent connection. Repair man came and jammed an old screwdriver in to hold contacts together and I then got a new pcb on ebay and swapped it out (it was plug in).
    I think....

For sure, but there are increasingly few of those who can afford a really big house, esp as michaels said, in the south east. I knew lots of large families growing up, now I know hardly anyone with more than 3 children.

I think a further issue is that families are so dependent on two salaries now. It would be incredibly hard to have the house, the money, the ability to take so much time off work without it affecting career (or being able to afford to be a SAHM). I wonder how many really big families there are now, and where they sit in terms of social/geographical/ethnic etc groups. May have a look for the data later if I get a chance.
My unscientific guess is that huge families 5+ kids will all be at the very bottom of the earned income distribution and large families of 4-5 might also be at the very top.

The first t minutes of a movie called idiocracy sums things up quite well....
    I think....

We have friends with 5 children. She is early 30's he mid 30's. 3 children from her first marriage, 2 children together. They bought their first house two years ago and used the help to buy scheme. A new 5 bedroomed house in a very pleasant village.

Come to think of it I only know of families of 5+ children ( my generation onwards) where the household is made up of step/half siblings.

We are going to a wedding this year where the bride has 3 children by 3 different fathers. Third time lucky I hope.

He is going to change the boiler temp control thing as he says that isn't as responsive as it should be, but he acknowledges that he is clutching at straws.

That's how contractors operate, happy to change things one at a time until they find a fault. Whereas if you were paying for each item and labour individually you wouldn't change stuff until you knew it was faulty.

He did say if it was the main heat exchanger it would be tough as they are obsolete.

I've always wondered whether an epilator is painful to use? :o

Can't lie, it isn't pain free. But you do get used to it/ become less sensitive. And I guess the hairs maybe get a bit weaker too. Now it doesn't hurt to defuzz my legs, underarms is still uncomfortable but they're done pretty quickly. No experience of any other body parts.

In other news :D, I mowed the grass for the first time this year. Should probably not have abandoned it so early last year :o Glad that's over, think I nearly broke my lawnmower!

Nothing wrong with a bit of pain :) (Phew, avoid any reference to cutting the grass and trimming the bush...doh!)

Not sure if I should ask this but I thought you weren't supposed to cut the grass if frost was forecast?

My mum was brought up in a 3 bed council house in London, in all, there was 11 people in the quite small house. All the girls shared one bedroom, sleeping across the bed, the boys another bedroom with the same set up and my grandparents, the remaining (and smallest, a box room) bedroom.

I know of a few families where they have 5+ children, all by the same father. One got pregnant during our O level years, I still remember her taking one exam whilst overdue and looking very hot and bothered during the exam with people hovering everytime she winced just in case she had gone into labour....she is now a teacher working with differing needs and her husband has always worked full time. Pretty amazing that she managed to fit everything in as her 2nd child was born with spina bifida, goodness only knows how she did it.

The other, her husband sadly passed away about 5 years ago. She didn't work as they had a very disabled son but he always worked full time as a taxi driver. She has done wonders with her son, he has a very rare syndrome (only 1 other in the UK) and was given a life expectancy of just a few years and certainly not into his teens, he is now 19 but with a mental age of a 2 or 3 year old.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.
