I actually quite like plain pasta so for £3 a week i could just live on that. Wouldn't be very healthy but i could survive :o

In fact during y 3rd year of uni i did actually exist on pasta (sometimes with cheese) :rotfl: i'm still alive to tell the tale

I love that the supermarkets are finally coming round to the idea of selling wonky fruit and vegetables, as there's nothing wrong with them and it'll stop a hell of a lot of wastage.

Exactly! And when they're chopped up and thrown into a pan to make soup who cares what shape they are! I don't even peel carrots or parsnips half the time. I also used to grow a lot of my own veggies so they came in all shapes and sizes ;)

    I bet they did! :rotfl:

Like you say, once chopped up, who cares what they looked like originally?

Home bargains, B&M and those kind of shops are my favourites as a lot of things are just so much cheaper than in the Supermarkets.

Also, for tomato soup near enough identical to Heinz, try Lidl, same goes for the ketchup. I can't believe I used to pay over £2 for a bottle when it's only 55p in Lidl.

I keep hearing about Home Bargains and B&M on this site but other than that I haven't a clue who/where they are. Although I suspect it's more store cupboard type stuff that they stock? I'll have to google, although I doubt there's one anywhere near me. It's bad enough I have to do a 30-40 mile round trip to go to Aldi :rotfl:

Tomato soup is the one I've yet to perfect home made, you need really tasty tomatoes (preferably home grown) and in season, so rules out many supermarket tomatoes as the best are too expensive even in season to be making soup with. It's the only tinned soup I ever buy and previously had to be Heinz only, but, I've tried Aldi Soupreme and have to say it's incredibly similar, and better, as it contains less sugar!

I've made tomato soup with tinned chopped tomatoes and it tasted great.

Tomato soup is one I haven't been able to perfect either, and I'm not sure any could even come close to Heinz (and now Lidl) tomato soup.

Home bargains mostly do store cupboard stuff, but ours now does veg and has a freezer/chiller section. I get loads of stuff there, including cleaning stuff and toilet roll. Save a fortune over supermarket prices.
