I definitely want to visit the Bernabeu! We're staying in a hotel on the Gran Via so we're very central. I'm pretty sure we'll cram loads into the 4/5 days we're there.

Took the plunge and transferred the £80 over to the O/P fund so I've made the £500 over payment. Mortgage now has 20 years and 11 mo the to run. I've taken 6 months of the life of the mortgage this year alone! Super stuff!!

    Thanks SSS.

Finally got round to sorting out the hubby's anniversary present. 1st wedding anniversary on 23 July. I've got him a 6 month subscription to Cycling weekly. He always says to just get him wiggle vouchers, but I do that for bday and xmas so I wanted to do something else. Try and make it meaningful.
He's left my card out already! Grr, I've got over a week of it just sitting there teasing me before I can open it

Only one day to go! Book face is giving me some very nice memories from last year. Wonderful images of my wedding cake.
Hubby "has something planned" for tomorrow night. I'm assuming it's a meal out at the hotel we got married at.
Not volunteering today - still feeling a bit off today so I'm at home and have decided to binge watch the whole of series 5 of the GBBO. Hopefully hubby will go fishing this afternoon and I'll have the house to myself.
That's the secret to a happy marriage :rotfl:

Money wise it's a bit quiet. Payday on Wednesday so it's a bit tight right now but we've also had the cheque for our solar so hubby should pay that in the bank when he gets his bum into gear. We usually split that 50/50. It's been a very good quarter and £383 I think we got this time :D
  • Love GBBO! Can't wait for the new series :T
Hope you have a wonderful time tomorrow evening, whatever it is you end up doing :)

So the last day of July has arrived. It's Harry Potter's birthday (not sure which one though) and 2 days until mine. And of course interest payment day soon.
Currently standing at £51.77 in my o/p account. That should go up by another £100 ish after interest pays out. Think i might treat myself and go to Brum clothes shopping while I'm on holiday. I break up for 12 days off work on Tuesday which I think is a lovely birthday present to myself.
Also getting my next tattoo on Wednesday. Hubby's paying for it as my birthday present. Looking forward to it immensely

Waiting for accounts to update interest. In this computerised day and age surely it should be able to be done automatically?

Lost 2lbs at SW last night. Only 2lbs away from goal now. Goi g to try and do it this week but with cake today and a friend's 30th birthday party on Saturday it might not happen.

Hubby has just got off the phone from Sky and has successfully haggled 20% off the price of our TV package for the next 12 months. Last year I convinced him to switch phone and BB to Sky so we could get a full bundle - this did save us some money (can't remember how much now) and we ended up paying £107 per month plus any movies he downloads. We've basically got everything except movies and BT sport.
However, the broadband was crap! It would drop out on us and the speed was a lot lower than advertised (which is why I now hate the phrase 'up to').
Anyway, I switched us back to Virgin - something about the fact that it's cable making it a much faster speed or some such techno-wizardry - and we're paying £34.99 for the next 9 months then £41.99 for the 3 after that (I also hate line rental). Then I go shopping again. I got £51.50 cashback and apparently there was a 2 day offer when I signed up and I should also get a £50 high street voucher. That'll do nicely. So, we're now paying £58.40 for the next 12 months with Sky and £31.99 with Virgin. This saves us £13.61 for the first 9 months and £6.61 for the following 3 making a grand total of £142.32 in savings.

I've also just used my ice cream maker for the first time using a Slimming World recipe. 2 Muller yogurts and fat free fromage frais. I'll let you know how it tastes later on :D

Oh my it's been a while since I popped on over here!
We've now successfully transferred from $ky to V1rgin and oh my word the internet is so much better!!! So worth it! First bill is high but it includes 2 months worth of usage (grumble grumble) but that's the weird way they work. Just waiting for cashback now.

I managed to hit target at Slimming World. Since the 11 July I'd pretty much stayed the same - lost about 2lbs over 4-5 weeks and was getting really frustrated and downhearted. My consultant gave me a few ideas to try out that week and lo and behold I lost the 2.5lbs I needed to hit my target weight. I'm pretty sure that I've gained a little this week but I have a 3lb buffer either way of target weight so not going to freak out too much. I didn't go mental or anything but I think I have relaxed a little bit more this week. I'll find out tomorrow anyway.

Last Saturday evening I started thinking about trading in my car. It's nearly 7 years old and I bought him from new during the scrappage scheme. His MOT is due in October and his air con doesn't work which is really frustrating in the hot spells we've been having. I had it re-gassed a couple of years ago and a few days later it was all gone so I think it might be the compressor, which in the Hyundai is at the front of the car, and it is a common piece to fail based on its location. He's never had any major work done to it and it's had 1 full change of tyres in its lifetime. He's also only done about 55K miles.
Anyway, I started to think about trading him in because I just have a hunch that I'll have to start paying for repairs at some point soon and I'd rather not have to outlay anything when I know the trade-in value is only between £2-2.5K. So I went round to talk to my Dad after talking to hubby about it and we went out looking at a local VW dealership last Sunday. Found a really nice 16 plate pre-reg car with about £4K off the list price with some high-spec. It's a 1L engine which is 400cc less than what I've got now but it has blue motion technology, cruise control, stop-start technology, front and rear parking sensors and working air con!
Long and short of it is I bought the car! Picker her up on Friday. I know it's not very MSE of me but thinking about that I mentioned above I think the timing was right. I'd hate to fork out a couple of hundred quid and sink it into the car and then a few months down the line either have to do the same again or trade it in and realise I wasn't getting 100% return, if you see what I mean?
I'm in a position where I could pay for it outright but by taking the finance I'm getting 2 years free servicing. I'll pay the finance for a few months, prob until after Christmas and then I'll pay off the outstanding amount.

Mortgage wise I still wish I hadn't fixed for 5 years but I'm just going to have to get on with it (again). I'm about £90 away from my next £500 overpayment. So, probably about 2 weeks. Just need to let the interest pay out at the end of the month and I might have enough then. Pretty sure I will actually. So, that will make my O/P for the year £2000 and will have taken 8 months off the life of the mortgage.

So far that's all I can think of update wise but I'm sure there's more somewhere.
