I think one woman actually went to the High Court in order to get the treatment she wanted. Hubby is perfectly happy to have the snip - he's as child averse as I am. I've got the implant now so we've got another 2 1/2 years. I imagine I'll be mortgage free before they agree to us having any sort of permanent child free procedure!

Urgh, no couldn't do with anything like a coil going anywhere near my bits. Although my arm didn't half ache after the implant was put in and the local wore off.
Hubby is definitely more child averse than delicate bits averse :rotfl:

Finally got my letter back from Legal & General answering my questions about my pension and I'm pretty sure reading through all the technical jargon talk that I can switch with no penalty. Apparently transfer forms are being sent separately so when I have 2 minutes spare - probably sometime on Sunday after tonight I shall start moving my pension and then I can watch it grow and grow and grow!! Much more satisfying than watching it slowly limp along.

Also, got my road tax refund. The DVLA are jammy gits I tell you. I sent the letter informing them that I had sold my car on the same day I bought my new car which was 13 days ago and was sent first class.
Today I get the remittance advice notice dated the 2nd September. So apparently it took them a week to receive it! This means I'm missing out on £12! "This refund was calculated from the date we received your notification." I bet they just left it at the bottom of the pile for an extra day or two. *Humph* Oh well, it's still £96 so nothing to sniff at but £108 sounds better.

So I've had a bit of an emotional day. Some of you might know that I work part-time at my local citizens advice on an energy project but I'm also training to become a generalist adviser and I volunteer on a Friday. I've probably done about 8 Fridays and seen about 12-15-ish clients.
Came in today and was told straight away by a work friend about a guy who had come in with the clothes on his back because his house had been burnt down in a fire. I literally had no idea where to start. My supervisor gave me some pointers and so I was with him in the end for 3 hours just getting basic things sorted - making phone calls and sorting a few things out for him. Once we'd finished and he'd left I felt really emotional for so many reasons.
I felt so bad for him and what had happened, I felt as if I was so lucky myself, and I felt as if I'd actually made a difference to this guy's life even if it was just making a few phone calls, organising a food parcel, clothes and some furniture, making him coffee and biscuits and just talking to and listening to the guy.
I'll probably never see or hear from the guy again but I really hope he gets on okay and things improve for him. I feel like I've done some good in the world today, I suppose.
  • I'm not surprised you were a bit emotional! Well done for making such a big difference.
  • What an inspiring post Mrs P! I often wish I was making a difference to other people's lives. My job allows me to provide for my family, but it does very little beyond that. What you do sounds amazing :)
  • well done... it's nice to be nice :)

  • Lovely story and you can't beat the "Feel good factor" Well done.

Reminded me of a day a while back now, when a girl rushed in and asked if anyone had handed in a ring. Just about an hour before a gentleman handed in a ring stating he had found it just outside the main door. I popped it in an envelope and put it in a drawer. I asked the girl could she describe it, she did, and when I opened the envelope, it was just as she described, so I handed it over. The girl said it was her mum's and left.

Next day, I received a phone call from the girl who said she wanted to tell me the story of the ring and to thank me, I said a gentleman had handed it in. Story was, just before her mum & dads last anniversary he had been told he didn't have long, so took his wife out and bought her this 5 diamond cluster ring, so a very special and sentimental ring.
On the way back home from her appointment, on the bus she said to her daughter, Oh, your dad's ring, I've lost it. They immediately got off the bus and headed back to us. The girl said when she got back outside and told her mum she had the ring, the mum burst into tears and could not stop crying all the way home and all night - so much, that she had to stay with her that night. I told her (only just, could hardly speak after being told that story) it was just meant to be and was back with it's rightful owner.

I hear plenty of happy/mostly sad stories where I work, but this is one of the ones that's going to stay with me, - this one had a happy ending.

  • Wow that must have been a tough day for you, but you have shown that gentleman true kindness and support at his most vulnerable stage. Even if he doesn't see you again, I am sure he will always remember you being there and talking to him at such a tough time.

  • Thanks everyone. Most of the advice I've done has been run of the mill stuff. This is what would be classed as an in-crisis enquiry. My mum did one once and she said that when you're in the moment you just do what's next and then afterwards you realise that you've done something special. She's very proud of me (she works upstairs in debt admin) and I got some really good feedback from my supervisor, and it's given me a nice confidence boost.

Went to Chester with my best friend as a belated birthday treat. Rather a spendy day but I don't care. We went and had lunch in a lovely deli on Watergate street, got our nails done in a nail bar(dark purple with sparkles in it) did some shopping and I got a nice pair of boots, some purple jean type trousers and a Sicilian Lemon Y@nkee candle. Tomorrow I'm going kitten shopping!! I just can't wait for next month. Hopefully we are able to find the one (or two) and they'll let us reserve it/them for 4 weeks until after our holibob. They've put some pictures up on their site of some black and white kittens and they're totes adorable. So are the ginger ones (I want a ginger cat cos then I can call it Kevin and he will be grumpy teenager Kevin cos we have the same surname. Ask me about my wedding jam sandwiches one day) but hubby is opposed to ginger because the fluff shows up on everything.

Not sure if the link will work but if it does and you can see the litter of black and white kittens I really like the look of the 2nd kitten going clockwise from the top. Then again I like them all. I'm also aware we may not get a kitten and may end up with an older cat!! I just want to make sure we get the right one and that everyone involved is happy. I just love cats!!
  • Link didn't work for me :( Got message

Whoops! Looks like a dog may have run off with that page.

Sorry about that. Perhaps he's buried the page out the back?
