Gammon is cured, so they're sure to last until tomorrow. I often assemble a hamand pasta bake the day before so that the children can put it in the oven when I'm at w*** and it's ready as soon as I'm home.

I've never cooked a gammon steak before. I don't want it to be as tough as an old boot!

Like above but with gravy made with pineapple juice and served with cold pineapple. Just replace some of the water in the gravy with pineapple juice.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0

Me again, looking for inspiration! I got one of the half price gammon joints in Tesco (£3.74) and am wondering what to do with it. It looks big enough to do about 3 meals plus maybe a couple of lunches for me at work. I just have no idea what to serve it with or what dishes to incorporate it into. The BBC food website is no help. Does anyone have any nice ideas?
Thanks again.0 -
I like to serve it with new or roast potatoes and vegetables including cauliflower with a cheese sauce. Leftover slices can be used for ham sandwiches or cold with chips and pickles or fried egg. Try putting some small pieces into a spanish omlette with fried sliced potatoes, onion and peas.0

Hi
I cook them as below.
Place joint on a large sheet of foil and poor honey over the top. Loosely bring the foil over the top and bake for about an hour in the oven (sorry cant remember the temp as I've been cooking them in the Remoska recently) Then open the top of the foil, slash the skin in a diamond pattern and pop cloves into the crossovers, baste over the top with the juice collected in the foil several times. Then sprinkle dark brown sugar over and put back in a hot oven for 20 - 30 mins.
Usually as soon as it comes out I am taking slices off and dipping in the juice before it gets as far as the table!
Can be eaten hot like that with new pots and veg, or cold with chips and salad, or sliced up for sandwiches (much nicer and cheaper than the plastic stuff you can buy in packets).
It usually lasts us about 10 days but if its still there at 14 I chop it into chunks and put it into a pasta carbonara to use it up.Mortgage, we're getting there with the end in sight £6587 07/23, otherwise free of the debt thanks to MSE help!0 -

How on earth can you make it last 10 days:D
Our left over is usually used in an omelette too but usually the day afterNow thanks to Tommix & Queen Bear, now Lady Westy of Woodpecker0 -
Just wanted to say how economical a gammon joint can be. I cooked a 1kg joint from the freezer at the weekend (£3.99 in Lidl ages ago). I sliced it up into 3 meal size servings and one for sandwiches. Then with a few veg (carrot, onion) and some pulses from storecupboard I made 5 servings of soup from the stock. So that's six lunches and three suppers for two people in the freezer for the coming weeks.0

We dont eat it as a meal every day, and dont have it in sandwiches every day - we prefer to ring the changesbut if there is any leftover after 10 or so days then I will make it into a carbonara.
This sunday I cooked a Gammon ham, a small chicken and a leg of lamb so we have plenty of meat for sandwiches and making other meals.Mortgage, we're getting there with the end in sight £6587 07/23, otherwise free of the debt thanks to MSE help!0
