  • Ok, will get stats from wife's phone tonight. I'm gonna try another wi-fi channel FWIW (seeing as I now know how to do it!)

    don't just change channels willy-nilly, its a pointless exercise.... just use the least-interfered one :)

    If the router is an ancient Plusnet Thomson - you only have b/g; if its a Technicolor you will have b/g/n. What router do you have?
  • Technicolour. How do I check if I'm on N or will I auto be on N?

    He confirmed earlier than its the technicolour which is single band n capable.

    The actual channel used won't alter the signal strength to any degree - the point in picking a clear channel is to avoid sharing the potential bandwidth with other APs.

    ======

    Default should be b/g/n. Inssider should confirm or you can check the router settings through the interface.
  • Yes but difference is
    Wireless G vs Wireless N Comparison

    Max Throughput: 54 Mbps vs 600-900 Mbps (Wireless-AC 1200-3200)
    Wireless Range (Radius): 75 ft vs up to 200-500 ft
    Wireless Channel Width: 20 MHz vs 40 MHz (20/40/80 MHz for Wireless-AC)

  • So next step is check on Android? But (to someone who knows nothing) I dont understand why there is a relcutance to view this as a hardware issue with the laptop itself?
