So... who's done the school run in pyjamas?

I don't have children, but the other day I was hung over, and the dog was staring at me, I changed my PJ bottoms for jeans and put a coat over my PJ top and took the poor mutt for a walk. I do love my PJ's though, and when I get home from work I often change straight to them, because as person one says, it saves laundry (and its cozy and most of all, it makes me HAPPY!).
What are "standards" if not a judgement by another name, even if its one you only impose on yourself, who cares what they are wearing as long as their children are at school on time and are happy and healthy.0 -

Well I hope you're right. Most people aren't at 20+ hours without sleep.0 -
Not PJ's as I don't wear them, but I confess to having flung trackies and a sweatshirt onto my unshowered body to do the school run a couple of times. As long as there's no public decency offence, I don't see that it's anyone's business. There are people dealing with all sorts of things in their lives: Shift work, children with additional needs, sick relatives, their own ill heath etc. Surely it's more important to have a child safely taken to school in a suitable condition to learn (i.e. clean, breakfasted, appropriately clothed and having had a decent night's sleep) rather than criticize the personal attire of a parent?0

They don't give a toss.. they don't care.
Children only care about such trivia if they are told they should. This is why children don't care what race or religion people are they just see people.. because it is irrelevant.
They see they have a mum that escaped a crappy marriage, works damn hard to provide for her family, the sacrifices she has made for them.. they are not that self centred to think that what their mother wears for 5 minutes is who or what she is. There are more important things.. that they see how hard she works, how much she loves them and that kindness and love is way more important than anything else. I would so much rather spend time with people who see beyond the superficialness of an appearance, a façade and saw the nice people underneath.
I'm probably known as the woman with the crazy hats.. but the hats do not define the type of person I am.. they keep my head warm (and hide my unbrushed hair pmsl) .. If you are going to judge someone by what they wear then I don't want to be acquainted with you anyway.
The snooty teacher may as well say 'leather clad biker' parents look like thugs, we don't want their type here, 'tracksuit parents' are chavs and we don't want them either.. and we can always raise the Muslim parents with their scarves, there is more than enough in the media to feed that prejudice at the moment.. School is the absolute last place there should be discrimination and prejudice, I'd have serious concerns about what the staff were saying to the children behind closed doors if they get away with this publicly.
I wish it was the school my children were at, I would make a flamboyant performance of taking the mickey.. pj's, leotards, chicken suit (because I have always wanted an excuse) wedding dress, wetsuit and snorkel... I'd have a field day!
Duchy.. Mine look like Boden trousers.. so if anyone did ask
All of the other stuff you describe is clothing, pj's are indoor nghtwear. I woudn't judge anyone for wearing clothing that expressed their personality. I would judge them for not being arsed enough to get dressed before taking kids to school.
It sends the wrong message and like it or not is often indicative of those who loaf around all day expecting others to subsidise their kids and lifestyles because it suits their way of life. That may not be the case with your friend but it is how others will look at her. Most of us are off to work when we do the school run so don't have the option, but then even if we did, wouldn't do it out of pride.
The school are trying to set some minimum standards, and I would have thought actually geting dressed was the lowest place you could start from.

They are dressed, if they weren't dressed, they'd be naked! Naked is possibly not acceptable.. and you are judging people for wearing clothes which express their personality.
bikinis are swimwear but the mum at our school got away with that one.. its nothing more than underwear yet deemed acceptable.
Women used to be scorned for wearing trousers.. now it is perfectly acceptable.. it is only very recently really that many womens uniforms included trousers.. and why should anyone wear something just because other peoples bigotry dictates?
There is something very wrong with anyone who tries to tell other grown adults what they can and cannot wear outside of the workplace!
And.. these leggings are now driving me crazy so I'm going to put my pjs on.. and then I might go to the post office.. at least I wont be in danger of exposing myself!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

It's disgusting and slovenly and sets a terrible example to children.
IMO, the 'slummy mummies' who go to the school in their jammies and slippers, are bone idle stay-at-home-mums who don't work, and are more than likely going to go straight back to bed and sit there with a bowl of maltesers watching Jeremy Vile, Loose Women, the news, and then Judge Rinder.
Then they'll spend 5 minutes loading the dishwasher, loading the washing machine, and running a duster around the place. Then they'll pull a pair of jeans and a top on, and go back to the school all flustered, and moan about how they never stop, and they never have a minute to themselves.
By the way, I am not saying ALL stay-at-home-mums are bone idle... at all, and I know many of them are busy and industrious and do things when the kids are at school. I am just saying the ones who stay undressed whilst taking the kids to school, are more than likely to be bone idle layabouts. I have known a few women like this. You didn't, did you? :rotfl::rotfl:0 -
I can safely say it is something I have never done. That I go to bed in my birthday suit, dropping my Son off at school in my pj's might just get me arrested.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

because she's going to bed.. why get changed twice and waste sleeping time and create extra laundry?.. when you get home, have a shower ready for bed do you put clothes on?? Especially when it is because some teacher with an attitude problem is the only person in the world griping about it.
her job is utterly relevant.. she could go to school covered in contaminated waste but chooses not to.. the same as those on their way to work wear their work clothes.
Unless people look utterly ridiculous why would anyone even notice what they are wearing?
My OH is sat across the room from me and I couldn't tell you what he is wearing without looking, it is irrelevant.. his tummy and feet are covered nothing else matters..
I however have a rather fetching pair of black leggings which are too big and keep falling down and a black furry jumper with a cat hood.. part of Asda's nightwear range.. hoodie for bed? I'd say most of the pj clad parents are better dressed/tidier than I am.
PMSL! :rotfl: Are you serious? So as long as his TUMMY and his FEET are covered, nothing else matters? What about his bum, and his privates?! Seriously, can you hear yourself?
I can't believe you actually think going to school dressed in jammies is OK. Beggars belief to be frank.
Have to say, I don't know any working women who do this. Then again, they have generally got into a very good routine, as being a working mum, you have to be disciplined. It gives an awful impression, going to school in jammies. Like you don't give a fig how you look or what people think about you.Person_one wrote: »Who is she hurting? Why create laundry!
I've never worn PJs in public, but all this pearl-clutching on the subject is tempting me!
What on earth are you on about?
Creating extra laundry? So you'd go to school in a certain outfit, and then come back and change into another outfit?
And pearl clutching? wth?
Again, what are you on about?happyandcontented wrote: »I don't think it is snobbery, it is standards.
Like it or not I can't think of a reason why the time it takes to sling on a pair of jeans and jumper would make the difference between getting a child to school on time or not. If you have overslept, presumably you still get the child dressed or wait while they get dressed? You do it then, or you do it before or during screaming "we have overslept, get up".
I am sure most of us have done it, but never needed to go to school in nightclothes.
It does point to lack of pride, lack of work ethic and pointing it out is good, helps to show it shouldn't go without challenge or comment because it is not normal to do it.
Yes I agree 100% with this comment.
You don't have to be a snob to have decent standards. Going out in your jammies to the school is a disgrace, and good on this head teacher for addressing this chavvy behaviour. What's more, women who go out to work have no more time to themselves before school, than stay-at-home-mums, yet they manage to get dressed, and ready for work too!
Laziness, sheer laziness, that's what it is. No excuse for it!You didn't, did you? :rotfl::rotfl:0 -

Yep.. feet and tummies are gross.. Other body parts don't actually make me feel a bit gippy but those do. And if he was wanting to walk about our house naked.. I don't care.. aside from the afore mentioned bits.. because I did clearly state he was sitting across from me and I had no idea what he was wearing illustrating the unimportance of attire... he is actually entirely covered aside from hands and head.. I just checked
I gave an example a working mum who does it.. so that deflates your prejudiced argument.. AND... I've seen dads in tartan loungepants too, one is a prison guard which I believe counts as work.. its not just mums.. shocking I know!
And you're very knowledgeable on day time TV for someone who looks down on those who watch it... I don't even know who or what any of those are bar the news, I read a couple of bits online occasionally, ones not aimed at 5 year olds too!.. and maltesers, you don't put in a bowl.. it creates washing up..
So.. bikinis (ie underwear) and shorts your bum cheeks hang out of, no underpants on the men with their skimpy shorts, camel toe flesh toned leggings, and shirtless men are all fine but a pair of lounge pants is not?? There is something very wrong with people .. but I'm entertained, alas I have to break a sweat loading the DW.. I'd brandish a duster but I don't own one.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0
