If a person is expressing themselves through what they wear, I would assume they are doing it for their own benefit - as I myself would - wear the clothes you enjoy wearing - and not worry if others ignore it

Yes verbally ignoring someone is rude

But you express yourself to someone - it's a form of communication.

But what do you think the Police would have done? It's often difficult enough to get them to come out when there's an actual crime or something dangerous going on let alone when a harmless unkempt woman gets caught short and goes to the toilet on the pavement.

If she had been reported missing, maybe from a hospital or care home, they could take her back to safety. If they considered her to be a danger to herself they can take her to a safe place.

Basically -if you wear PJs that obviously look like nightwear eg fluffy bunnies rather than a dark, plain design to take your kids to school -inevitably some people are going to assume you are a JK slummy mummy- if you are fine with that - no problem - however it's probably worth considering if your kids are getting bullied because other kids are commenting in school.

It's just a fad anyway- next year it's be fake fur boob tubes or something else equally inappropriate. Some people are just sheep.

What I found most shocking was that parents were turning up at parent's evenings and daytime events in PJs, which suggests that they haven't even got dressed during the day. In which case, !!!!!! are they doing all day? It's a basic part of being a fully functioning adult to get yourself out of bed, get dressed and go and do something useful. They only excuses are being really ill, really old or having a new born baby (new mothers can count actually managing to get dressed befor midday as a triumph :))

We all get told being a parent is a full time job. I neither agree or disagree with that statement. However, if we see it as a job (ie our main working role) and wear pjs to school, would we also be happy for the police/ bank staff / teachers / office workers to wear them?

I find it laughable that parents suggest that they don't have time to get changed but would they also use that excuse for work - turning up in their pjs to the office? Of course not, it gives the wrong impression, and they would be sacked.

Just like it gives the wrong impression to our children.

If I am expected to wear a "uniform", then I'd quite like a set break during my working day, 4 weeks' holiday and sick pay, and weekend rates :D

A friend of mine runs an online business, and is delighted by the perks of working from home - doing computery stuff and talking to customers on the phone while he's in his pants...or less... :)

    I don't understand this "don't have time"

I worked from the time my son was nine months old - working in a public facing office environment so would drop my son off at the childminder or nursery and later on school before going to work.

I managed to turn up each day dressed appropriately and even minimal make up . My commute was anything from twenty minutes to fifty minutes (after dropping son off). Days I didn't work and could just pull on casual clothes and drag a brush through my hair before taking my son to school were a positive luxury.

I think people do it because they can -working parents know it's possible to leave the house looking presentable and do think "I can do it so you can too" when presented with some of the weak excuses offered.

There's a woman near me for the first three months after her baby was born didn't get dressed. I'd see her in the corner shop in her nightie, dressing gown and slippers and she'd always be complaining what hard work a new born is and how she simply didn't have time to get dressed............She didn't appear to be suffering from depression or any physical problems - just didn't bother getting dressed as it was too much effort with a baby to look after too.

    EXACTLY!

As I have said - I think twice in this thread - how on earth do these people who say they 'don't have time' to get dressed before they take the kids to school, think working mums cope? They have to get the kids ready, AND themselves, AND they have to get the kiddie to the childminder, nursery, or school, and THEN they have to get to work. And all by 9.am! Sometimes 8.30am!!!

Two of my sisters are working mothers and have got up at 6am for the last 6-10 years..., and from Monday to Friday, they don't stop til they get back home at 6pm. THEN they have to start cooking tea half the time (their hubbies share the chores thankfully, although not the morning stuff because they are off out to work at 7am!) My sisters are busy and on their feet for 3 hours before they even start work! And this is a typical day in the life of a working mother.

The things I am reading here are highlighting what a blessed life a stay-at-home-mother has, (once her kids are at school.) They don't know they're born.

As for the people defending this behaviour (going out in pyjamas, then slobbing around in your pyjamas all day, necking wine with mates, and dossing around doing nothing ; ) I reckon they are just defending it just for the sake of an argument. Because there is no way they can possibly mean what they say. No way can anyone justify people going out in public in their pyjamas, and sitting around all day in their pyjamas. It's slovenly, it's lazy, and it's dirty.

As Duchy said there is the odd exception - like if you're ill, or your baby is less than six months old, but otherwise, no way. And the thing is, these slovenly slummy mummies have kids who are at school, and they have all the time in the world. So there's no excuse. :naughty:

Well exactly! As I said, I find it somewhere between laughable and unbelievable that a small number of people think it's OK.

And as I said earlier I have asked at least twice 'how do you think mothers cope who have to go straight to work?!' Conveniently, the people claiming they 'don't have time to get dressed before taking the kids to school' have not answered me.

Probably because they HAVE no answer. ;)
