People pushing your speed in the dark

  • If you're too scared to, horror of horrors, drive at the speed limit then maybe driving isn't for you. Instead consider public transport, or just never leaving the house. People aren't driving in rush hour for the thrill of it. They're just trying to get to work or home as quickly as they can. Instead what we seem to get are people driving 10 miles below any speed limit, whilst no doubt talking on their phone or smoking a cigarette or just playing with their radio - still annoying fellow drivers is the most important element.

I'm guessing these are the same types who will slam on their brakes to allow about 25 cars out of any side road or will drive straight down the middle of a road when the road might be big enough to easily get two cars side by side. Maybe they're the kind who will require there to be about a half mile of clear traffic before joining a mini roundabout.

As I said, if you're scared then stay home. People out there have places to be and don't think it's right that it should take 2 hours to drive 10 miles.

Why would people drive like that? If you want to drive 15 mph below the speed limit, fine, but refusing to let anyone overtake you is dangerous

Hate those drivers who want to self police the road not sure if they are wannabe traffic cops or window licking morons.

Am convinced someone told them that every time a car overtakes another, somewhere in the world a fluffy kitten dies. I did an overtake on sunday, clear sighted road, good road conditions, plenty of room, so much so that the two cars behind me also overtook the slower car.

Despite a perfectly safe overtake for 3 cars, it didn't stop the chap coming the other way to give me the coffee beans and flash his lights like a loon.

Are you sure the lights and beans were for you and not for car 3 ? The "me too" chancers that tries to squeeze the overtake in practically on the number plate of the overtaking car in front. The ones that do the same on the traffic calming chicanes where they don't have right of way, when the car in front of them can get by safely, but they can't without the right of way traffic braking. Or ride through the red light up the a!!! of the car that went through on amber. You know the ones - Audi drivers.

I don't see anybody on this thread complaining about safe overtaking.

You don't tailgate and intimidate slower drivers do you?
  • They're impatient to get past and so feel it's right to get up close to people and intimidate them.

I usually find a quick tap on the brake usually let's them know to back off.

Yes you can get fined for driving too slow, but it's usually an excessive amount below the allotted speed limit.

In my personal experience it's usually (although not limited to) either an Audi driver or a BMW driver.

I can't believe it took 10 posts to start stereotyping BMW/Audi drivers! :rotfl:

I take your point and have seen some risky overtakes over the years but not in this case, all 3 of us had safely completed the overtake, before he started flashing and waving, it was a long clear road.

What? Normally the Urban Dictionary helps me out with new slang, but in this instance it only added to my confusion!!!

Remember the nescafe coffee ads from the seventies? Where celebrities pretended to shake coffee beans in their hands. Similar to the universal hand signal indicating male self gratification.

I didn't know either - just worked it out. I must have a naturally smutty mind :D

    I've been Money Tipped!
Am I also supposed to drink to the legal limit before driving as well?

But the whole point is we are talking about a situation where there is no straight stretch of road.... and the driver behind in this situation is a problem because they are flashing lights and tailgating - extremely dangerous at any time but especially on a wet road full of sharp bends.

Surely even more reason to let them pass, then you can travel in peace.

What is this strange road where only one car can travel at a time and there is no possibility of stopping and allowing someone else to pass? Is it a long rickety bridge or something?

For the record, I drive like an old lady but I always let someone pass if they're obviously trying to overtake. You don't know, they might be having an emergency of some kind.
