It's strange to me that Scottish Power doesn't appear there, as they have always been cheapest here or within £4 a year on any search in the last few years, so I'm hoping they bring out a new tariff in the near future, before I make up my mind.

Well, they took a couple of weeks longer than expected, but the latest Scottish Power tariff is out, fixed until April 2017, and cheaper than "cheaper than the cheapest" in this area, in fact cheapest of all.

Could MSE clarify what happens to the MSE/CEC cashback if someone joins a MSE collective deal in February and then switches to take advantage of another more recent collective offer (such as that offered by EHL)?

    Hi there

The switching cashback comes from the switch referral fee paid by suppliers after 3 months. So really this ultimately depends on whether the supplier you're switching to through MSE, reconciles that your switch has fully completed (given that at that point you'd no longer be with it).

I'd suggest that by switching away so soon, there is a risk that we wouldn't receive the referral fee, meaning that we wouldn't have anything to split with you by way of cashback.

Hope this helps - sorry that I can't be more definitive.

Well I received my welcome e-mail a few days ago, saying switch for gas will happen on 21/2/16 - no mention of when electricity will switch.

Today I received an e-mail "It's quick and easy to manage your energy account online. If you haven't already registered, simply click the button below to set up your password." So I click the link and then click on the button asking for me to be sent another link to follow to chose a password. I then receive an an e-mail saying "
[FONT=&quot]It looks like you recently tried to reset your password using this email address, but we don’t have an online account registered with it"

That e-mail gives me a link to register with BG, so I click it. I then fill in my details, but it wants a customer number which "is on any e-mail or letter" they have sent. Oh no it isn't! It's not on any of them.

Why do I get a sinking feeling?

Are you aware though there are exit fees on the new April 2017 tariff? Also if you compare this latest tariff to the Cancer 2018 tariff the electric kwh is higher, although the gas is slightly lower. I re-entered my kwh for the year that I updated and there was virtually nothing in it. If I stick with SP, it is a no-brainer: exit fees v no exit fees!

Yes, I did notice the exit fees, which is a shame after a year or so without. But I'm taking the view SP has been cheapest here for a few years, so worth a gamble.

Maybe these vary a bit between areas. After your warning I just rechecked. Here the differences between those 2 tariffs is the April 2017 has just over half a penny cheaper for gas, and electricity just under a tenth of a penny cheaper. About £60 a year.

I have the same problem :(

Mine somehow worked out at hardly any difference. So I have gone for the Cancer 2018 rather than the collective. Too many bad accounts of BG for me to take the chance. Although the thought of saving £122 a year sounds good (if indeed it is correct), the negatives plus the £60 exit fee goes a long way to negate this. The good thing with the Cancer 2018 one is there are no exit fees regardless of whether I stay with SP later in the year or not; therefore if there are any decent price-drops with any of them I will still have the option. If not then the Cancer 2018 option is still marginally cheaper than the fixed rate March 2016 that was about to end.

As long as we are happy with our decisions then that is the main thing

    Dan,

Thanks for the reply - I was really interested in knowing what happens to the MSE cash back if you are/were an existing Eon customer who moved to the MSE Eon collective tariff and is now considering moving to a different cheaper Eon collective deal..

As you know Eon process these 'internal switches' very quickly - in my case, the new MSE Eon tariff was showing on my account with 24 hours from when I applied through the CEC [though the CEC page still claims the 'switch is in progress' two weeks later].

I think during the last MSE collective switch a similar issue/question re: cash back may have come up re: the then MSE Eon tariff and the uSwitch Eon tariff? (I wasn't a Eon customer then)

    Thanks

I phoned the Collective Switch number 0800 975 9712, and the switch had used an old email address when I had been a previous BG customer and not the email address I used for this switch. This was updated whilst I was on the phone and I was able to register on-line. Annoying that this happened but easy to resolve for me.
