When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important. :money:

    Hi, :hello:

    Fell asleep on the sofa at 9pm and now can't sleep so decided to get up and do something 'useful'. Is watching 'Miranda' useful?!

    * Bought a couple of secondhand DVDs in the charity shop today. I think I'm going to have to sell-on some soon, the shelf is over-flowing.

    * Going to Glasgow later to see Cirque Berserk as I said the other day. Will try to spend responsibly.

    * Did RMS Surveys. Got a £5 voucher in the post. Gave it to OH.

    * Did i-Say surveys.

    * Cleared emails.

    * Did February budget spreadsheet. Backed up spreadsheet.

    How is everyone?

  • Afternoon, thanks for the start.

    I spotted a news article this morning that E.on had just slashed their utility prices. I already did my annual utility switch just under 2 weeks ago, so a quick check of the dates showed I was still within the 14 days cool-off period. Half a dozen mouse clicks later, and that's an estimated £250pa off the utility bill for this year.

    Kinda makes up for the boiler breaking down.

  • Morning everyone

    I've been reading this thread for a while and plucked up enough courage to post. I'm terribly lazy and financially incompetent so I find I need lists for motivation.

    I've been following the basic principle on paper for a few weeks so my list for today is:

    - Walk dogs (who are pestering already)
    - Clean kitchen and bathroom floors where dogs have mud skated round them! Love winter :-/
    - cash lottery ticket, husbands relative gave it to him and it has £5 win on it
    - pay £5 and another £5 change found round the house into my b@rclays account
    - sort out some paperwork in the filing cabinet. I'm drowning under paper in my office
    - find Halifax ISA paper work in the above to set up £200 HTB ISA.
    - begin to set up budget paperwork. I'm very bad at this as it makes my brain spin. I tried YNAB but this was a disaster.
    - check energy supplier. I saw ML programme last night and it came right on top of my bill. We pay £95 combined for a modern 3 bed detached and it seems high?

    So that's my list to accomplish today. I'm also going to try to persuade DH to open a spare current account to try the switching circle but he's a bit reluctant to change things. Up until I met him he was still using the account his aunt opened for him as a baby!
    Can I ever learn this budgeting lark? So far it's not looking promising
    Lloyds loan - gone forever! :T
    Bank of Mum and Dad gone forever!
    Emergency Fund £1500 :T
