    Evening all

    Managed another NSD today.

This week's 'new to us' dinner was salmon fillets with lentil dahl. I did the salmon in the micro as usual, with white wine, lemon and dill and the dahl in a pan. DH thought it made a nice change but I wasn't impressed with the dahl - oh well, at least DH was happy :D

Need yoghurt the morrow but think rest can wait until Saturday so DH can carry :rotfl:

Hope you all have a super Friday

spends of £1.46 yesterday, used coupons and vouchers to get my two bags of goodies!!!
  • Jackie O I bow down in awe at your yield. Both in terms of the will-power for NSD's and the way you seem to make a penny squeak.

:rotfl::rotfl:Blimey Thanks my kids used to say Mum can make a tanner squeak and yell for mercy :):):)
My late Mum was brilliant at it, and she is the person whom I learned my frugal ways from:)

I just like to get the best value for money that I can .I tend to think of housekeeping almost like a business and my budgets are treated the same way.

But if I saw something I really wanted or was going to buy for one of my family then I would splash the cash, but I just hate waste of any kind, whether its time or money. To me, wandering aimlessly around a shop or supermarket is not only a waste of potential money , but time as well. I am a great multi-tasker :) and very organised

I go through my accounts at the end of every month and they come out to the penny as I keep receipts in a box so I can do a tally with the accounts.

Perhaps if the country was run like this there would be more cash available for other things. men don't seem to have don't a great job so far of the country's housekeeping.

I also like to pick up recipes and tips from here for different things .At the moment I am toying with the idea of buying a big 1kg drum of vegetable bouillon powder from Amazon I do make and eat a fair amount of soup and from other posts it seems to be good value to buy a large box rather that buying those small cubes .but I shall ponder over it awhile as spring is on the horizon and its possible they will reduce in price once the warmer weather gets here, and I will check to see if they have come down in price because of that :) then who knows I may buy one for next winters soups.Just a bit of forward thinking that may save a few more pennies for the pot :):)

JackieO - It is good to see you back posting on this thread of Old Style. I learned lots from you when I joined over four years ago. My housekeeping was consistently around £700 per month then and is less than £250 normally now. There is lots of wisdom on here and it remains a good educational feed of ideas and insights.

It really sounds as though it's going well for everyone. I shall go for just bowl fruit, green veg and milk this week and use up my fridge and break out some of my meat from the freezer. I have given up desserts and chocolate now until April (except for 3 special occasions - my birthday, Mothers Day and Easter Sunday - well rude not to if someone treats you!). I might sign up to the British Heart Foundation no chocolate thing for March to keep my will-power going!

    Keep going everyone

Mr S delivery last night to cover the next 2 weeks. There were a couple of frozen items (e.g. leeks, cabbage) I need for the meal plan Sains don't do so I will pop to Mr T to get these tomorrow. I think we will also need sausages. We certainly don't need peas as I messed up the order and now have 4 kilos!!!!!

Total now £226.80 leaving £58.20 for top ups although DH picked up a YS loaf last night so I have 2 loaves and 10 rolls so will try and squeeze some more into the freezer. Also have 12 pints of milk and apples and oranges for the 2 weeks. DH now has a tenner of nectar points, I won 1000 points and have £1 voucher for Mr S so that will help with spends in March.

DH has scoffed the chorizo that was in the fridge so I will need to replace that to stick to the meal plan. I think I will cut in half and freeze as this is the second one he has eaten before I have cooked the paella!

I was really pleased when I worked out tonight that due to our holiday there only 3 shopping weekends in March so I may try and get away with 1 delivery as we will do a food shop when we get to Somerset for our holiday food.
