I was 18 Cumbria. She had been ill on and off most of my childhood but she made the most of every day. Then one morning I found her after a very bad stroke just before my 18th - she lived another 3 months but without speech or ability to use her right side. I have just had a little glass of baileys in her memory.
We have had a lovely day with some friends. They came around this afternoon and have just left. Dh prepared all the ingredients for a big meat and potato pie and I put it together - he threw it in the oven and voila a nice easy tasty tea. They brought a desert and we chatted and chatted and chatted some more. He has dementia but happily talked about the antics our kids all got up to when we used to go on holiday together years ago - we’ve had the train on in the garden and all the Christmas lights on - very festive.
A downside is I’ve got a big white heat mark on my table - I often put pans/dishes from the oven on a mat on the table but today it’s gone through - I think I’ve used a different mat which isn’t as thick as some of the ones I’ve used previously
I paid my cc off in full :j:money: so am pleased to be entering a new year debt free  My next aim is to build a little nest egg....I know we should be getting a little inheritance but goodness knows how long we’ll have to wait or how much we’ll have left after solicitor bills. So I’m planning on building my own little retirement fund.January spends - £587.580 -
Glad that you have had a lovely day with your friends.

Hi delurking to say use toothpaste with a soft cloth on the white mark. Gently rub in the toothpaste and wipe off repeating until the mark has gone.

No matter how many years pass by we always remember our mums. You were so young though, such a shame
Well done on paying off the cc
Here's to a fabulous 2019 xxI get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)0 -
Pancake Queen - thank you for delurking - I’ll give that a try. I’ve tried vinegar but there wasn’t much difference.
I was young SA but didn’t seem so at the time - always hard no matter how old you are I suppose.
Got my sil coming around for tea - easy buffet but I’d better go and set up.
Will catch up properly later or maybe tomorrow- depending how quickly she goes home;)January spends - £587.581 -
Well my sil still hasn’t arrived and she doesn’t like driving at night so I’m half expecting her not to show......my New Years resolution is wearing thin already - to try and be more tolerant of her
:o:o even after 40 years she gets to me more than anyone I know. But hey I can chill and watch Luther if she doesn’t show......
I’ve spent the day changing my email address on various websites as we’ve change provider saving us around £40 a month. Hadn’t realised how long it would take and how stupid some sites are:mad:
I haven’t really done much in the way of resolutions- just carry on being as frugal as I can whilst enjoying life. Making the most of what I can when I can and taking whatever opportunities come my way - but because I want to not because I have to.
My eldest gdd acquired chicken pox the day after we left them. Poor little thing is full of them....they should have been having friends staying from abroad at new year but have had to cancel. We’re expecting little one to get them too.....at least she was ok for Christmas.
The Halle orchestra playing ABBA we’d been bought for Christmas was amazing. There were singers as well as the instruments and they had everyone up singing and dancing. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect but just WOW. The tickets were less than £30 each too which I think was bargainous compared to what some other acts charge at the big venues nearby. I’ll certainly keep my eye open to see what else is on there and visit again. We made a day of it in town - dh bought a cd with the hmv vouchers he’d been bought - needed to get them used before they decide not to honour them then we went to a little Turkish restaurant that does 2 courses for a tenner - I didn’t expect it to be on over Christmas but it was - then we went to the venue and had a drink listening to pre show entertainment. So a good day.
Yesterday we went out with ds to a lake about 40 minutes away walked the couple of miles around it - I haven’t been there for a long time - it’s had new paths around it so it was lovely. We went for a posh burger on our way home then had a quiet New Year’s Eve in watching the box - every year I say we’ll do something more exciting but we never do.
Dh back at work tomorrow and I’ll enjoy my 3 days of peace
Hope 2019 is good to you all :TJanuary spends - £587.580 -
Sil didn’t turn up - we’ve tried phoning her but no answer. I’m hoping her dh is ok as he’s in a care home and really poorly with Parkinson’s....I’ll be so annoyed if I find out she has just had a better offer as it wouldn’t be the first time. It’s my dh only close family and he runs around after her but she treats him like :eek.....you can insert your own word. I’ll let her off if there’s been some sort of emergency...time will tell.....January spends - £587.580

Well spent another hour I won’t get back trying to log onto Morrison’s app.....I tried to spend some money I’d put onto my More card virtually earlier in the year at Christmas......to cut a long story short various staff had told me different things about redeeming said cash.....so it never got spent before Christmas as I couldn’t redeem it.....Anyway I spent a fair amount of time yesterday trying to get the app which a staff member told me I needed to have to redeem cash - ended up phoning their help line. The customer service was very good and he said I should have received a voucher - which I didn’t. ANYWAY he arranged to have cash converted to points - which were ready and waiting for me today - no problem I’ve collected them. So I tried to load ap again using the directions given yesterday - going round and round in circles as I’ve changed my e-mail addy. I rang helpline again and spoke to another lovely chap who was going to talk me through things. I turned the laptop on.......it decided to pick that moment to do a big update which said would take a while - that was an hour ago and it’s still at it.....I’m determined to get this ap working :rotfl: it’s a matter of principle now:rotfl::j. Anyway I’ve got an enquiry number and name for when I phone back when my computer decides to play......TECHNOLOGY.....it doesn’t like me....think I’ll revert to buying stamps in my hand if I do it againJanuary spends - £587.580
