  • I spray the shelves, put them in black garbage bags, leave for a day. They come out sparkling clean. Too bad it wouldn't work for the oven itself, especially the top of it.

So yesterday I was cleaning the oven on and off all day.  I wanted to do it before the new flooring comes tomorrow 🤞🤞. Eb, I’ve had issues with oven cleaner slightly damaging floor covering in the past too 🙄 so I had a big sheet of cardboard over the floorboards 👍I bought a steam cleaner from B&M for £25 on Monday evening and some of the cleaner where you soak the shelves. I was very impressed with them. With a combination of using the dishwasher, steam cleaner, oven cleaner, brillo pads, a toothbrush and good old elbow grease I now have a sparkling oven. I paced myself and dodged workmen. And even including the cost of the steam cleaner......I saved £72👏👏👏👏 - it would have been over £100 to clean a range cooker 😏 I’m a bit achey this morning but I did it. 😁😁
I got in touch with the head teacher and asked for a dummy run of the meeting to make sure I could access a link. I wasn’t sure my old computer was up to it....I was right...but I could do it on my phone. So I had a lovely long chat with the teacher I work with and I’m so pleased I tried beforehand 👍👍
Right the workman has just arrived so I’m off to put the kettle on for him. He needs a bit of TLC - he’s going for more scans next week as they suspect more tumours. I think he’s trying to keep his mind off things 🥺 He was saying how he wished he’d listened to the advice not to smoke as he was a chain smoker until 4 weeks ago.

  • Well done on cleaning your oven. I am afraid I cheat and have an oven cleaner coming this afternoon although I did the microwave/grill myself this morning but that wasn't too bad. I would rather pay the £55 for someone else to do it but if you have a range that will be more expensive. Steam cleaner sounds interesting.

Good luck with your  meeting tomorrow. Shame about your workman. Never smoked thankfully but I know a lot of people struggle to stop even though we know the health risks. A shame really as there is NHS help to stop.

I desperately wanted a cleaner to come out and clean the cooker ES - if I’d have been able to get one before January I wouldn’t have even attempted cleaning it this time around. I don’t think it’s had a proper clean in the 3 years I’ve had it as I’ve been incapacitated with one medical thing or another ever since. We’ve wiped it and cleaned the hob but the oven was badly neglected 😱😱 it’s a double oven range and the smaller oven must be the most expensive cupboard in existence- one oven only gets used if I have a houseful- otherwise it’s a storage space for oven trays etc.....my old cooker had a storage space underneath - this one doesn’t. I’m going to remedy that when I fill my new kitchen cupboards  👍👍

I’ve just been doing some number crunching - I’ve been avoiding looking- ostrich mode I’m afraid 🙉🙉. My half pay was more than I expected £300 less than usual. I’m so pleased I cleared my debts off.

I hope your work meeting goes all right tomorrow Milann.

I feel sorry for your workman, my BIL died of lung cancer and it's very difficult to detect before it spreads because there are no pain receptors in the lungs. I hope he can have some successful treatment. I wish tobacco companies had to pay compensation to people who get lung cancer because they know their product kills but it's so addictive that people find it hard to stop. It makes me really angry.

Great news about having a clean cooker, well done :).

The meeting went well. The lady from HR didn’t say much at all. It only lasted 10 minutes. They are doing another referral to Occupational Health in a few weeks and then we’ll see what the outcome is....the head said we could discuss options after the next oh report. I asked what the options were - she said reduced hours or duties when I go back or early retirement through I’ll health. She offered a course of therapy - I declined but can ask for any time I feel I need it. That was basically it.....
I was more worried about the technology - there was a moment when t’internet went down  just beforehand. Luckily dh was in to sort it for me.  So there’s a bit of extra time before I need to make decisions. I’m still very undecided.....I like the idea of an early retirement on one hand but am slightly concerned about cash.
The flooring is coming sometime between 1 & 2. Not sure how happy the fitters will be as we have emptied the room except for the quartz worktops that they’ll have to help slide into the living room along with dh and the nice builder is dropping in to help with.
