So about midday dh came home unexpectedly - he decided to take half a days holiday so that we could go and sort a kitchen out - deja vu 😏 So we went to Howdens again and managed to see a kitchen fitter. So she designed a kitchen very similar to the Wren one but it has lovely wooden doors, not the wrap around plasticcy ones - grey coloured. The layout is slightly different but overall looks just as good. We’ve saved £1000 too 😀😀..... Dh wants to show it the builder in the morning and will pop in and pay for it at some point. It should be ready in about a weeks time....Wren would have been the end of November. Because the doors are wooden we can re-paint them in years to come. I don’t intend to go through redesigning my house or kitchen ever again
From there we went to cancel the Wren kitchen. The deposit should be back in my bank in about a weeks time.....I’ll be watching like a hawk. I’m just pleased it had a 28 cool off period. B&Q is next door to Wren so we bought some metro tiles whilst they were on offer. Just need some grout and paint now.
We also popped into IKEA which is nearby as I wanted a metal tray for a cupboard in the utility room. It was madness in there.....I saw a lovey drop leaf table and a dresser......something to think about in the future..... My old table must be nearly 40 years old and now has a stain on where the heat from a hot pan went through the mat.....it was the last time my friend who had the stroke came around for a meal.....it upsets me every time I see it and how he loved the meat and potato pie I made for supper when they came around....it was a bit of a tradition.
I’m absolutely shattered now after my unexpected day of gadding about. Dh made tea and I’m just chilling. I’ll have a lazy day tomorrow to recover.January spends - £587.583 -
It’s true that we often neglect the places on our doorstep. There are a few nice walks nearby but we need to ride about an hourish to get to some beautiful spots. The Peak District, North Wales, The Lakes and The Lancashire coast are all a ride away but easily doable in normal circumstances for a day out.January spends - £587.583

I'm glad you got the kitchen sorted for less money. You won't regret going with Howdens. Mine's 3 years old now and still like brand new, had no problems with it whatsoever. Sounds like you're well on the mend and getting out an about again, that's really good news xI get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)3

So a lazy day today. I was shattered after going out yesterday - we didn’t look around - just went to the things we needed except in IKEA where we had to follow the route around the shop. Wish I had a bit more confidence on my own
The builders have been working in the toilet room today and we now have a window in there....slowly but surely.January spends - £587.582 -
I think the wooden Howdens kitchen sounds like a good choice and will be more durable the the Wren one. Hopefully DH is less stressed now too
.
I'm lucky too that I'm near shops and beautiful countryside, we should try to make the most of it.

Dh seems much calmer....I think he’d just let everything get on top of him. Fingers crossed everything goes smoothly with this kitchen.
He had hoped to go and pay for the kitchen today (it’s across the road from his work) but he ended up out being out on a job all day. So the plan is to use my MR T credit card to pay for it, so we can earn points and then pay in full when the bill comes in. That’s providing I’m up early enough to get there at 8.30 so dh can bring me back home and get to work and I can be back for the builders. We shall see......if not dh can just pay with his.I think I’m going to ring the nurse tomorrow as the dressing over my wound isn’t looking or smelling too good.....or maybe I’ve just got an over active imagination. I’m not waiting until Friday when they’re due to come. Better safe than sorryJanuary spends - £587.583
