  • Some pension schemes enable you to take your pension early through ill health . It costs nothing to enquire . Go for it

    Speak to your local CAB.
In short though if you have to retire early on ill health grounds you should be able to hopefully get at least part of your occupational pension early.
You could also consider applying for employment & support allowance once you are no longer working.

Thanks. I have a few months on half pay but I suspect work won’t want me to continue as my sickness record isn’t good. At this moment in time I can’t envisage going back. I wouldn’t employ me no matter how good I am at my job.

Hope you are feeling better.  I resigned from my stressful job 8 months after an accident, “dying” on the operating table, being in intensive care and the subsequent trauma and recovery.  I was in no fit state to return to work physically and mentally but I did not qualify for early retirement due to ill health as it wasn’t permanent.  I bit the bullet and resigned when my half pay finished and took my occupational pension 6 years early aged 60.  It was obviously much reduced as it was 6 years early and I won’t get my state pension until I’m 66, so money is very tight but I don’t regret it at all as health is more important.  My partner is 5 years younger and still at work albeit in a low paid job:  3 years on, no regrets I am enjoying better health and the freedom from work.  Best wishes and better health to you 😊😘

If you are in a local government pension scheme LGPS the pension department can be helpful with answering questions. Also might be worth asking on the Pensions board here, lots of very knowledgable people answer questions there. Good luck with this Milann, your job is very full on so hard to do if not operating at 100%.

Thanks everyone. I think I’ve made my decision as I just haven’t got the energy to start from scratch again atm. I’ll leave it a couple of months until I’ve got a bit more get up and go and bide my time until it’s time to set the wheels in motion. I work for The local education department so will speak to them and the union when it’s nearer the time. I’ll just have to tighten the purse strings - I’m assuming I’ll be able to take my work pension at a reduced rate whilst waiting for my state pension at 66 years and 10 months 😡😡
I’m actually in shock at the amount I’ve saved during this last year or so - I’ve been expecting my wage to drop to half way before now....so been very frugal. I must have just squeaked in enough time to qualify before being off long term again. It will be what it will be.....at least I’m here to enjoy life....there were a few doubtful moments at the beginning of September 😳🤔😄

Nurses have been out. Everything is going slowly In the right direction but ok.
I’ve dozed on and off all day today....hopefully I’ll sleep tonight 🥱
Dh took my old £20 note and used it in the shop without any bother.
BIL funeral has been planned for the last day of the month. I’ve said I’ll go if I feel up to it - mainly to support dh. Who knows how many will be allowed to attend by then.....I think if it’s only 6 by then, it could be a good thing. He didn’t have any friends and we are a small family. When SIL looks back and there are only his daughter and son in law, myself and my dh plus SIL - .at least she can say no more were allowed rather than no more turned up.  Very sad 😢
Her quarantine finished next Thursday so we will pop in to see her then.

Good that everything is going in the right direction however slowly 👍 Sad about BIL’s funeral attendees being so small but at least those that cared will be there and that’s what counts x

I remember FIL’s funeral many years ago, hardly anyone was there, then I’ve been to others where over 200 turned up.
I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)

I know SA - he was a very quiet man who loved his cars but had little interest in people and made it known 😔 so sad.
A lady from work is visiting later, I’m looking forward to seeing a different face. I think that has been the hardest part of all of this - not seeing my friends that have dragged me through other illnesses.
