Milann's life keeps getting in the way.......

Well I lost the pound I’d put on last week - see-saw comes to mind but at least I’m not putting on every week. But we had a free cake and cuppa voucher for John L which expires soon - so we went and had a sandwich (between us) and a cake each...would have been rude to pass a freebie cake.....hopefully I’ll do enough not to the pound re appear by next Friday.
I took my sick not in on Thursday and it was all very surreal. It was lovely seeing everyone especially the children - one little one was speechless and just hugged me for several minutes - splechlessness isn’t usually associated with this little one. So we all had a little chuckle to ourselves. But in the office when I entered it was like being in the twilight zone as a lady I worked with the best part of 20 years ago in a different school was sitting there........I had to do a double take as she’d put a lot of weight on and looked a lot older (I bet she sails the same about me :eek:j) anyway we had a good catch up and she is on supply with us after taking retirement getting bored and going on supply. Not sure what’s going on but a couple of office staff are on long term sick and there’s all sorts of rumours going around. I suspect they’re just burnt out and need a proper break but the gossip mongers are having a field day. I hope they’re ok as they’re both nice people.
After that we weren’t quite sure what to do with ourselves as it was so hot - so we jumped in the car as we needed air con:p and went to the seaside - we reckoned we’d appreciate a sea breeze. As we arrived the sky went black and the storm started - pretty impressive lightning. Within about 20 minutes the sun was shining again so we had a walk along the sea front and gardens there. The sky went black again so we dashed back to the car and just made it before torrential rain. We drove to next town along the coast and had a coffee watching the rain. There was no sign of it easing so decided to go for fish and chips in our favourite cafe a couple of miles away before heading home. They were delicious and by the time we’d finished the sun was out again and we had a lovely evening stroll along the seafront. There was a nice sunset (but I’ve seen better there) some of the lights were on on the promenade and the tower was illuminated. So from what we thought was going to be a wash-out was a lovely afternoon and evening - we didn’t arrive home until nearly midnight and the house was like an oven. What I did notice was how swollen my hand and arm were after our walk - I’d been trying to swing it whilst walking linking dh.
I’m trying to get the balance of doing things with my arm and not having it aching too much. I can now get a nearly empty cup to my mouth but not a full one.
Wow that was a long waffly post - mse wise I’ve spent about £20 on our day out and topping up on fruit and veg - I’m happy with that.January spends - £587.580 -

It really was an unexpected lovely day Beanie and ‘only’ cost petrol and we spent £15 on drinks and small fish and chips for us both - which dh paid anyway. I honestly expected to have to turn the car around and come back home because the rain was so torrential - so a real bonus getting a couple of walks in. I need to sort my head out as I walked miles just linking dh but I’m a bag of nerves just walking around to the local shop by myself in case my ankle or leg gives and I end up putting my arm out to save myself.....
I’m so chuffed - I’ve completed 3 hats in the last week - 2 adult hats and I’ve done a newborn baby hat today which I’m really pleased with. I’ve made myself put the wool and crochet hook out of sight since I haven’t been able to do any crafts for such a long time I can’t put it down - but I need to do short sessions regularly- my arm is really aching now but I’m literally ‘hooked’ and can’t put it down. But I know I need to be sensible......so that’ll be a first then:rotfl::rotfl:
A NSD today - not ventured out in the rain.January spends - £587.580 -
That does indeed sound like a lovely day by the sea
Annoying that the lovely weather broke before the weekend, oh well.
Sounds like you're churning hats out at a rate of knots, are they for someone or do you sell them?"I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)0 -
It's a difficult one Milann as of course our automatic reaction is to put our arm out when we fall.

I’m doing the hats for the WRVS stall at the hospital where I had my arm done - if it wasn’t for that hospital I still wouldn’t be able to do my crafts - I’ve missed knitting and crocheting for my granddaughters but don’t think I’m anywhere near being able to cope with the weight of a cardigan yet. So when I was really cheesed off last week I thought I’d give a hat a go - at the worst I’d have had to wait a bit longer, but I managed it - I figured a hat would be light and easy plus it’s a way of giving a little bit back whilst getting me going again. Win win  I don’t think I can knit yet but the action needed to crochet is ok
A lady from work is popping in on Tuesday or Wednesday - she is amazing. She had a brain tumour removed earlier this year. Her hair has grown back and you’d never know but her vision is giving her problems and she can’t drive yet so depending on her lift she is coming around. She has been back at work about a month too. So I’m having a lazy weekend and will try to have a big cleanup on Monday. I’ve done little bits since my big clean up before I had my arm done - but I need to do a bit more. Reaching forward and lifting are giving me the most problems but I’m pretty good at doing things left handed these days.January spends - £587.580 -
That’s what I’m hoping Beanie - I need that confidence again. As soon as I can drive I’m hoping to go back to the gym and swimming and try and build the muscles up but the problem is very lax joints that go over very easily without warning. I’ve got inserts from the podiatrist so don’t know what else I can do on that front. Also having a combination of 2 bone conditions which can both result in fractures doesn’t help on the confidence front even though I’m on medication for one of them. Just got to get my head in the right place to do it I suppose - and accept its a fact of my life. I’m back at the gps at the end of August so will mention it again if I still feel the same. I’m not too keen on this getting old lark.....although I’ve had 1 of the conditions all my life - it’s now complicated with my joints becoming more lax and osteoporosis......onwards and upwards......:p:DJanuary spends - £587.580

It’s tricky sometimes Beanie but I know it could be a heck of a lot worse....I need to remind myself of that and get doing what I CAN do instead of moping around - which I’ve been guilty of recently.January spends - £587.580
