Enthusiastic Saver I’m quite lucky to have quite a few around me and visit them regularly. My closest two are Quarry Bank Mill and Lyme Park. The series The Mill a couple of years ago was loosely based on Quarry Bank and Mr Darcy was filmed in the pond at Lyme Park.January spends - £587.580

Pleased to hear you're getting around the NT places and that your DH is more relaxed with his reduced hours. I've had a flick through the Pinch of Nom book but not succumbed as I have so many cookbooks and so little time :rotfl:I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)0

I’ve got shelves of cookery books SA - I used to be a cook in what seems like a former life - I do still enjoy cooking but struggle recently with my arm. I’ve got a lot of the SW books and I used to try a new recipe every week at one time - I’ve high hopes of doing the same again once they’ve rebuilt my arm
Steve Austin the Bionic Man might well be jealous by the time they’ve finished with me

. We managed to go to Chartwell (Winston Churchill's home) in Kent when we dropped DS3 at uni which was really interesting
.
I've mainly been to the SW ones too, but when I stay with my dad I get to visit a few different ones. Last year we went to Stowe Gardens and Waddesdon Manor which were really good. My favourite SW ones are Cotehele, Greenway, Coleton Fishacre and Overbecks Botannical Gardens.
We're National Trust nerds :rotfl:.
I would love to do Overbecks and Greenway. That is on my list to do this year. Coleton Fishacre is my favourite. I did Tyntesfield with my DD last weekend which was nice too although the house is not as nice as some we have done and Chartwell is near my mums so have done that one too and like you loved it.
Will check out Stowe Gardens and Waddesdon Manor. Our local ones are Saltram, Lanhydrock, Buckland Abbey, Cotehele and Antony and we have done those many times. Will be doing Compton Castle in a few weeks time with my U3A gardening group which will be nice. I think NT is good value for entertainment and exploring these lovely places.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. That sounds good Milann and will have to put those on the list. I saw the Mill series and really enjoyed it. You are lucky to have a lot round you. The pins on the map are a really good idea.
So sorry to hear about your friend. Very upsetting for you all. I also hope you hear about your op soon and well done on having such well organised finances now. At least that is one thing you do not need to worry about at the moment.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. So if you’re near Lanhydrock you ar in my favourite part of the country ES I missed going down there last year. I had hoped to travel down in June for a few days but it all depends on dratted hospital getting in touch. I was hoping to be fit enough to travel mid June to go to The sea shanty festival in Falmouth but I’m not holding my breath. I’ve seen it advertised when we’ve been down there during Whit holidays but I’m usually tied to school holidays and always miss it.
I don’t think I’ve ever felt happier about my finances. Can’t quite believe it but I’m fully aware how easily I could slip back - especially now dh has reduced his hours.

That's great news that you're so happy about your finances Milann
. When will DH get his pension from work? Will he have to wait until he stops work completely before he gets it?
I'd like to go to Compton Castle too ES. The NT places near you sound really good too Milann:).Finally Debt Free After 34 Years, But Still Need to Live Frugally

HH he already has his pension - he could claim it when he was 65 last November. He has cut his hours down rather than paying loads in tax which he has been doing since he cashed it. He doesn’t fancy stopping full time yet though as he says he’d rattle around the house all week on his own. So he’s seeing how it pans out with the 3 days. He isn’t on a high wage and has a state pension with a works pension from where he worked until about 15 years ago when he was made redundant - his latest employers didn’t have a pension scheme until it came law within the last couple of years. We’re hoping he will come out around the same as when he was working full time but he’s not had a payday yet.January spends - £587.580
