Yet another reminder to check your receipt properly at Lidl. This is the second time in a month I've picked up a 30% off item and then later noticed the discount hasn't been applied. (Technically its happened to me thrice in the past month, but I did pick it up on the occasion it was a substantial saving at stake rather than pennies on bread rolls).

    Do what I do.

Put the 30% off items first on the belt and say to the cashier, 'up to the bread, all the items are reduced'. I do this in both Aldi and Lidl.

I have been thanked more than once by the cashiers in these stores for doing this.

I try to do that as well, either that or put them at the end of my stuff and tell the cashier that, like you I have been thanked for telling them.
  • Thirded! Got a thanks from the cashier and a promise to have a word with the person doing the reductions. Our store has just been given radios, still seem to be a bit of a novelty for them - the lady serving me (I think she was a manager, had a blouse!) gave a heads up to other staff that the stickers had been placed awkwardly on that product so to look out!

Did my normal Aldi shop last night & they asked my post code when I finished paying, the assistant saying they had been asked by head office to carry out a survey to see how far people are traveling to shop there.

My Lidl has got some self-service checkouts (awful system compared to the one used by Asda and Tesco). There's a 30% sticker button on the screen, but all is just locks you out of the till until a staff member comes over. They scan their card, then put the item in your bag, tell you it was complaining about the weight, then walk off before you get a chance to tell them why it is actually calling them over. Happens every single time and you get overcharged unless you check the screen/receipt.

When you eventually get them back (as they've normally gone to another customer by then), they are then really awkward (it's simply scanning their card, pressing "Discount" and typing in 30).

There's normally only one normal checkout open, so you can't really avoid these machines without waiting a long time.

One of our Lidl's has introduced these too. I often shop in the evening, when they don't open any ordinary tills. Last time I went I didn't realise this and had a trolley full of stuff which I was expected to balance on the basket sized area for stuff you've put through the till. I did try and point out that it was a bit impossible to the assistant, who ignored me. I haven't been back since - I do almost all my shopping at Aldi, which is a bit further away, but at least I'm not trying to create the leaning tower of Pisa with all my shopping!
    May spend - £291.40/£320.00
    June spend - £106.40/£320.00

New to this thread and would like to cut down on instant coffee prices. Usually buy Nescaf! original when on offe from Tesco or Sainsbury's but want to try a less expensive product as we go through it quite quickly. Anyone have recommendations from Aldi or Lidl for an instant coffee of similar quality please?
I don't drink much instant, but visitors like the Azera dupe in Aldi, that comes in a drum, there is a standard and a strong version.

I'm pleased Aldi's instant decaff has improved. I had started drinking Lidl's, then switched to decaff Nespresso capsules and decaff ground, but I can only get the decaff capsules mail order from Aldi or CRU Kafe.

I agree with the above the area is far too small and I've also found the assistants less than helpful,I like the Lidl bourbon and several times had 2 bottles asked the security to be taken off and carried on scanning, then I've found only one bottle has been sorted and the assistant has disappeared. Also the general area of the self scanners is designed around baskets and your trolley is encroaching on another customers space which understandably they're not happy about but what can you do when there are no tills open ?

Woodgrange Drive is the offending branch.

There's probably a lesson in there for me, because I seriously doubt I would buy the items at all if they weren't reduced. (Bread rolls on 2 occasions, but some middle-aisle stock on the other, as an unexpected gift for my Mum. She was v happy).

I contacted M&S this morning to tell them they could make a fortune by opening a Simply Food store on The Broadway :D

Quite a few prices are creeping up in Lidl and Aldi.
Lidl branded offers are often dearer than the BIG 4 branded offers.
Bertolli for example can often be found for around £1, 95p in Waitrose when on offer, but £1.19 in Lidl.

I wish Lidl would put their Deluxe range more on their weekend offers, even replace the weekly wine offer with a Deluxe one!
I don't shop in Lidl as much since they changed the weekend offers.

So....one item's price may be cheaper in Waitrose but I can guarantee not very much else is. If it bothers you thst much then go buy your oil in Waitrose.

Coffee preferences tend to be down to individual taste, so although there will be recommendations, prepare to spend money on several before you find one you really like.

Completely agree! Some people rate Nescaf! but I can't stand it. Coffee is a very subjective choice.
