If you're in a hard water area and prefer to use dishwasher salt as well as a tablet, Aldi's Classic works well and is as cheap as any I've seen. If you don't have an Aldi in your area, one recent test (I forget which) rated Morrison's tablets quite highly.
Thanks, I always use salt as the water is very hard round here. No Aldi nearby, but there is one near my parent's place, so I'll pick some up next time I'm down there.

I couldn't get the classic dishwasher tabs last visit either, maybe phasing them out?

Had some vegans visiting so purchased the Lidl pea and lentil curls - tasted ok but have been repeating on me all day - yuck!

Also, why is it when they have the same item in different flavours, its always the one I like that isn't available - the seeded oatcakes/full fat greek yoghurt and my poor cat never gets the full variety of tray food in any given week? Do they not get feedback on the most popular ones?

No, they get mixed batch outers distributed from the warehouse.

  • New to this thread and would like to cut down on instant coffee prices. Usually buy Nescaf! original when on offe from Tesco or Sainsbury's but want to try a less expensive product as we go through it quite quickly. Anyone have recommendations from Aldi or Lidl for an instant coffee of similar quality please?

Coffee preferences tend to be down to individual taste, so although there will be recommendations, prepare to spend money on several before you find one you really like.

The Aldi decaf used to be vile, but I tried it again recently, and it has significantly improved.

The Lidl decaf is also good.

Both £1.45 for 100g, according to MySupermarket.

Not directly L or A related, but does anyone has any recommendations for an alternative to Coffee Mate Light?

On the subject of coffee, I’ve been very impressed with the Lidl Bellarom beans. 100% Arabica, unusually, better than the brands, and a lot cheaper, particularly in the XXL packs. Always a matter of personal opinion of course.

The Lidl gold top one, can't mind the name, is good if you like Nescafe

Yet another reminder to check your receipt properly at Lidl. This is the second time in a month I've picked up a 30% off item and then later noticed the discount hasn't been applied. (Technically its happened to me thrice in the past month, but I did pick it up on the occasion it was a substantial saving at stake rather than pennies on bread rolls).

My Lidl has got some self-service checkouts (awful system compared to the one used by Asda and Tesco). There's a 30% sticker button on the screen, but all is just locks you out of the till until a staff member comes over. They scan their card, then put the item in your bag, tell you it was complaining about the weight, then walk off before you get a chance to tell them why it is actually calling them over. Happens every single time and you get overcharged unless you check the screen/receipt.

When you eventually get them back (as they've normally gone to another customer by then), they are then really awkward (it's simply scanning their card, pressing "Discount" and typing in 30).

There's normally only one normal checkout open, so you can't really avoid these machines without waiting a long time.

It has to be the worst Lidl store I've ever shopped in (my old local store was much nicer with friendlier staff). Don't get me started on the "three hours free parking when you spend £15" they advertise but stopped offering over a year ago. And the fact the car park (multi-storey) requires you to bring the trolley back down to the store on the ground floor and about 150m away from the lift to get your pound coin back.
