Sorry, a bit off topic, but do you have a recipe. I have a bread maker and never use it as I can't make a decent loaf.

Try this for starters - I've found all the Panasonic recipes work well. The yeast's probably the most important thing - best not to keep it too long once opened.

I had a bread maker some years ago, and whilst it was quite nice to have warm, fresh bread at home, I didn't find it particularly cheap or the results reliable.

I got the best results from bread mixes (there was a cheese/tomato/herb one that worked quite well). I found the loaves made from scratch to be very dense, although I eventually got something palatable with a 50/50 Brown-White mix.

I like the Lidl Farmhouse Brown multi-grain loaf (large loaf 99p). It's ideal if you want a multi-grain loaf without visible seeds in the bread. It's got a very nice texture, which is a good compromise between processed bread and fresh. IMHO.

Odd that so many people are having problems with breadmakers. What make are they?

Have to say that in around 30 years of using Panasonics I could count the number of less than perfect loaves on one hand.

99% of our bread is good, we have Panasonic so maybe it is worth buying a decent one. It's worth persevering with and trying different recipes and tinkering the recipes until you get desired results and as for the economics we buy our bread flour from Aldi and yeast (stuff in little tins) from Tesco/Saintsbury's etc and I reckon a loaf costs around 50p. Plus the added bonus of knowing exactly what you're eating. Too many people give up too easily on things.

It would depend on your make of bread maker I think but in our panny for a small wholemeal loaf in this order...
    3/4 teaspoon yeast
    400g strong wholemeal flour
    1 teaspoon brown sugar
    15g butter
    1 teaspoon salt
    300 ml water

Why don't you all just buy a bread maker and stop buying artificial bread from supermarkets? Aldi do a bread maker for £29.99 then you have fresh homemade bread whenever you like. It's so easy to do, it's a no brainer.
    I haven't bought a loaf in years.

I have a breadmaker but my homemade bread never froze well so Hubby was eating bread like it was going out of fashion!

Ditto with an LG one. Mixes, home made.... not impressed at all. I'd rather buy real bread from a real baker when I can, or when I can't, as good as I can get from a shop (Aldi's bloomer isn't too bad)

I have had 2 breadmakers - Both have not been much good so I now use them for making the dough then rise and bake in the oven.
It takes the work out of making bread so they are worth having IMO

Just out of curiosity, has anyone tried the Aldi Moser Roth Mousse au Chocolat Sour Cherry-Chilli 85% cocoa chocolate - 5 individually wrapped bars?

Sounded interesting, but I found it quite unpleasant. The chilli completely swamped the other flavours.

Others may have a different view, perhaps?

Complete opposite here! It's actually my favourite chocolate in the world ever. Also the orange one.

I hated the milk chocolate versions though... I think they were plum, and maybe pear? or apple..... just vom.com
