AUDI A1 - 1 Month Old!!
Options
Hi all,
Looking for a bit of advice and help here.... I have a brand new 65 plate Audi a1 1.6 Sportback which I bought in December 2015. Around two weeks after having the car there was a squeaking/whistling noise whenever I pressed the accelerator, my car went in yesterday to be investigated and it turns out the turbo is 'not in a good way' (!!) after less than a month of having the car it's had to stay in over night to be fixed!!
I am contemplating writing a complaint to head office because I find that it simply not good enough from a luxury car name. What do you think?
Thanks

Providing they repair it at no cost or inconvenience to you, I presume you have a courtesy car, I don't see a problem. If you wish to reject the car you are legally entitled to but then what? You will be without a car and will then have to source a replacement.0

do Audi make turbo,s or do hey buy them in?
if bought in , it's not their fault , however they will replace it for a new one and send the old one back under warranty for you.Save a Rachael

I'm not quite sure what you want to gain here...
The car has "been in overnight to be fixed" - so it's coming back to you fixed, right?
There y'go. Problem solved. Job jobbed. You will have your month-old car back, good as new, fully working.
What? You no longer trust it? Sell it, then. Or, more likely, check the paperwork for your finance deal to see what the minimum period before you can voluntarily terminate the contract is.0 -
What outcome are you looking for?0

But as you say, they will ensure the car is fixed and remains warranted. Post #2 on the thread was a sensible response.
In terms of what do we think about you writing a letter: sometimes, writing a letter can get you free stuff, so if you have the time, why not try it on. But if no joy from that, there is a limit to how many times I would be bothered trying to escalate something as 'an unacceptable response to my complaint' because more often than not, dealerships will resolve things quite acceptably if you are rational about what you should expect to be done.0 -

A 1.6TDi A1 uses the exact same spec of engine as in a VERY wide range of VAG cars over the last five or six years. Everything from Audi A1 and A3 through VW Beetles, Tourans, Golfs, Polos and Passats, Seats, Skodas and VW vans. All will have exactly the same electronically-controlled variable vane Garrett turbo. Garrett are one of the largest suppliers of turbos to the motor industry globally. There's absolutely nothing "luxury" about the mechanicals... They're bog-standard off-the-shelf.
And, yes, it's not unusual for a new car to have a glitch or two, especially when you look at how monumentally complex they are compared to even a decade ago.
OP - I hope you're doing a reasonably substantial mileage in this car, or at least regular long journeys - because this is going to be the least of your problems otherwise. Modern turbodiesels are NOT suited to low mileage urban pottering-about.0 -

You have my sympathies.0 -
Firstly an Audi A1 is not a 'luxury car' - not by a long chalk - in the real world even a Ferrari or Lamborghini at 10 times the cost can have a fault.
Be that as it may, I think that you have unreasonably high expectations of perfection.
And they are dong the swap as fast as they can as they probably need to get the part sent from Audi UK - or did you think they could do it in 5 minutes while you had a coffee?
The faulty part will be replaced - the dealer will say sorry for the inconvenience - and that's an end to the matter.
That is why you have a warranty that covers such things.
If you get stroppy with the dealer for a simple part replacement, don't expect any goodwill from them later on when something goes wrong (as it will) when the car is just out of warranty.0 -

Were you expecting it to be fixed quicker than it takes to do an MOT?
Happens all the time, faulty part/product not just cars, under warranty, replaced free, sorted.0 -
So it's been fixed under warranty at no cost to you. Complaining for the sake of complaining will achieve precisely nothing, unless you are seeking compensation for loss of use overnight? Dream on.
An Audi A1 is a bog standard VAG vehicle, built on the same platform as the Seat Ibiza or VW Polo. The only 'luxury' difference is that you pay about £2K extra for the Audi badge. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
