  • There's nowt wrong with PCP - finance brings with it a lot of advantages vs buying cash. Also as long as the person taking the finance can make the payments then surely they can afford the car. To say only those who can pay cash up front can afford the car is frankly ridiculous.
    But, you missed the irony...

The biggest owners of Audis in the UK are... VWFS. Technically, that means they're actually owned by the ECB and a whole lot of German corporate pension funds.

Vorsprung durch Technik, as they say in Germany!

Yes, exactly one of the advantages I was talking about. Why would anyone want to own the car they drive when someone else will take that liability for you.

I think we're getting bogged down here on a specific point - it was JaydeeUK who tried to make the feeble point that we're all in some way jealous because we dont "own" a new Audi.

The point being, the vast majority of new audi owners dont either - they're on PCP, leases or are company cars.

There are many merits to PCPing or leasing a car, and i've used PCP deals in the past, however one of the merits is definitely not having bragging rights on an internet forum to say you "own" a new Audi when clearly you dont - it belongs to the finance company.

There is a big difference between a house and a new car, though. A house doesn't lose around 50% of the value within the life of the typical finance on it.

Unless you had a mortgage over the 2007 crash.

All these replies from users who have never owned, and have no realistic hope of ever being able to afford any new car, let alone an Audi are hilarious. Also love the assumption that anyone who has Bought a new car has 'spent all their disposable income' on it.

That's the point...... Unless homeless, ANYONE can afford a new car.

Why would anybody be jealous of somebody owning an Audi A1? Or indeed any Audi?

I am sure there were people jealous of my Jaguar.

Were they jealous of the monthly payments that were almost in 4 digits? I suspect not.

I can see people being jealous of an R8 or similar, but your average diesel Audi?

    Really?

I can't say ever owning an expensive car has made my life any better or easier.

I had my Jaguar for work, but when it started to get unreliable then it was bye, bye. It is only a car, a £60k car admittedly, but still just a car.

If you want to have an expensive car then good luck, hope you enjoy it.

    Exactly.

And jealousy over a car is an odd thing. If i see a nice car go by i'll think "wow nice car", rather than "oh i bet he cant really afford that" or "he doesnt deserve it but i do" or "i wish i could drive that".

Like you, i've had more than my fair share of expensive cars, all of which i've enjoyed at the time, and i may chose to do so again, however one thing i would echo that you said is that driving an expensive car is in no way linked to happiness in life.
