Excellent words of wisdom there from Morglin.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
No, they don't. I've been on both sides of the counter, so to speak, and believe me, the quicker claims can be processed and cleared, the better.
But, paying a benefit has to be justified (and shown to be so), and although it may be inconvenient, certain documents have to be provided before some benefits can be awarded.
It's not up to the DWP to run around getting them - it's the responsibility of the claimant. With cut-backs in staff, if the DWP chased around after each claim, the process would take even longer than it does now.
Mistakes are made sometimes and that's why we have an appeals process.
DLA is more difficult, as the system requiires a non-medically qualified DM to decide the initial claim based on a form and a certain amount of medical information.
That's why EMP's are often used, who are doctors.
Tax Credits are a nightmare, the computer cannot cope and the whole thing needs an overhaul.
But, as for this thread, none of it makes much sense, and I think any confusion has been generated by the OP and his friend.
Lin
To not even admit incompetence exists I am dissapointed.
For your information DLA claims get turned down by non medically qualified DMs without the use of an EMP report. You yourself may never do this which is good but some DMs are doing it. Your comment about not chasing down evidence is interesting I get the impression that DMs feel they should never chase up evidence even when its not possible for the claimant to obtain it. Should a DLA DM chase down a GP report when the GP says the DM has to ask for it not the patient?
The amount of confidence in the system is scary.
Of course I can understand why staff are perhaps rushing claims no matter what the cost because of staff shortages, I am not blaiming the problems on staff the system itself I think is at fault. The governments answer to the very high success rate of appeals isnt to make initial claims more accurate but to move the goalposts so less people are entitled to the benefits.0 -
Yes it has been going on for months(2 months since he left work, about 5 since he started New Deal)
I have to apologise firstly as I haven't read all the replies to your question. In truth, I saw something that didn't ring true with me: this person is on New Deal? It sounds like he has been SANCTIONED for cocking up his New Deal agreement. And if he's on New Deal, he would have, more than likely, been unemployed for 18 months or more before he started. I hear talk about missing P45's etc, but if your'e on New Deal, you would still be 'unemployed' getting JSA but with a £15 allowance.
Very Confused!If I had 8 hours to chop down a tree, I'd spend 6 hours sharpening my axe0 -
Just want to say to Lin and anoyne else involved with the DWP I am thankful for you coming on here and posting in your own time and do appreciate you are probably working under a lot of stress at times. Good luck to the poster in getting the issue resolved.0

Well, what an interesting thread! I only came on to look up Legal Aid. I totally agree with Impecunious. I live in a very rural area but there are jobs around if you want them. How about a push bike for transport? It doesnt matter that he/she is going to college or university soon. Do something to earn your own money - its better and makes you feel good. The friend that is taking the flatmate for a ride sounds like a cling on - he/she manages to find money for alcohol. Has the job in question been left or were they sacked? Does make a difference to your claim. If you walk out of a job it needs to be looked at. If we all walked out of a job when it was difficult or just hard work and signed on for benefits, what would the system and society be like? It is after all meant to stop people living in poverty not subsidise their drinking habits or mobiles as I have frequently seen. Having no money means grateful for any help you can get, including friends, and buying Value lines at Tesco - been there and done that;) sorry think its called Tough Love0
