Hollande wants to punish us for wishing to leave.

Sounds just like the intimidation and punishment meted out to those seeking to leave Scientology.

We are allocated a fishing quota that allows us to catch 30% of the fish caught in UK waters. Between Norway and ourselves we could completely change the dynamics of fisheries - just a thought...

If Hollande wishes to punish us, well 2 can play at that childish game.

Listening to the chief of Tate & Lyle, he was explaining how his company will make more profits once tariffs on imported sugar cane are removed, making our sugar much more competitive than the EU's. A prime example of the opportunity that awaits us.

That would be the sensible thing to do.

    No, it wouldn't.

As as an EU citizen and believer in the EU as a concept, I hope that the UK does not receive a better deal outside the EU. I don't wish to see the UK punished, or decline, but if the choice is the UK being being excluded or further fractures in the EU because nations see it is better to tear it apart, then my choice is pro EU. I believe many other EU citizens would see it the same way.

DFS are of a business model that can operate completely within the UK on their UK sales.

    Many businesses, including mine, aren't.

Hmm, your name sounds a bit foreign so, after naming and shaming yourself for employing yourself, you should have the decency to go bankrupt so that English people can somehow get more jobs.

We must be punished to stamp out this outbreak of democracy.

Imagine Tony Blair and the Remoaners got thier way, we go back cap in hand to the EU and swear eternal obedience, can you imagine what a little poodle we would become. Is this the Great Britain we built?

Yes some Banks wil, open a brass plated office in Dublin or Luxembourg, no biggie. We are the worlds biggest financial centre that fuels the entire EU business Eco system, the vast bulk will remain in light touch lower taxing Brtain and you are ignoring the many NEW opportunities that await us as a result of being out of the cloying SM and CU constraints.

looking at the pound today I think I am going to forward place 12 months of orders from my suppliers to be delivered this month, as when they themselves come to buy their EU/USA goods its going to result in more expensive prices.

Business is going to start purchasing for fear of these falls leading to price increases. This will potentially be reported as booming business but it will be forward purchases will will show up as slower business 6-24 months down the line

In our case it EU machine parts.

isn't it normal for companies to plan for changing prices and exchange rates?

I see it slightly differently mwpt. I voted in because I wanted to avoid precisely the type of uncertainty that we currently face. However the EU has to learn to behave with practical pragmatism. If it doesn't, whatever happens to the UK, it will still need to find a solution for Greece, for the refugee crisis, for the concerns over Schengen every time there is a terrorist attack, for the rise of the right, for huge underemployment of youth in the southern states.

It simply can't stick its fingers in its ears and go "la, la, la" and pretend we're still in the early 2000s with a new European currency, a mood of optimism and a belief that the good times will keep on rolling.

It has to accept that things need to be different from now on, in so many ways. I think that some of the countries get that point, Tusk gets that point. I'm not convinced that Juncker is anywhere near that acceptance.

Whatever happens, the English Channel will still be just over 20 miles wide. Europe will still be our "closest" trading partner, if it no longer wants to be our closest trading partner. It will be a crying shame if a bunch of grown ups can't get together and come to a solution that works for both parties. That will require compromise on both sides.
