If we vote for Brexit what happens

People have been saying that for years. Property is not unaffordable in all of UK the high prices are mainly in London and the South East and property is still selling in those areas. I have been surprised at the increase in prices over the last couple of years but there is a lack of good properties and those that come on market sell quickly.Again, I don't really see why you are acting like this is impossible. It's already happened in one part of the UK relatively recently; to contend that it could never happen again seems like wishful thinking in the extreme. The seismic event that you refer to happened less than ten years ago and, given the global economy has broadly limped on since then, could easily happen again. I think it's pretty widely accepted that if the government hadn't of stepped in to shore up the market with taxpayer money, Northern Ireland wouldn't have been the only place to see 50%+ drops.
At the minute it's hard to see how property can increase anymore. FTBs have been well and truly priced out in many parts of the country and the BTLers have all but disappeared, who is left to buy at these prices? In the short-term the answer is probably nobody which is why transaction levels have hit crippling lows, but sooner or later sellers are going to have to sell and drop their prices accordingly. If by some miracle property doesn't become more affordable over the coming years then the 'priced out' will become larger and larger part of the electorate and, sooner or latter, their political will shall be brought to bear. Arguably that has already happened with recent government policy, but the so-called 'housing crisis' is now front page news on an almost daily basis - politicians will have to be seen to do something...0 -
I don't think FTB's have been priced out in many parts of the U.K. Yes the south east and London are ridiculous, but there's still lots of areas where houses are very affordable. After uni all my friends spread out quite widely around the country. The only ones that have had any problems buying a house are those that moved to the south east. Of course there's expensive areas outside the south east. But there's also a lot of cheaper ones too!0

So far house price growth hasn't changed much according to nationwide figures.0

Johnbusby...you need to give evidence to back up your claims. Any evidence at all? "Transactions have hit crippling lows"... really?
Opinions like yours lose all of their credibility when you lie. Sorry.0 -
I know what it was about.
I stated who it was targetted at.
Then you stated who it was targetted at wrongly. Only Britain can change the terms under which V4 nationals live and work in the UK."V4 countries will be uncompromising. Unless we feel a guarantee that these people (living and working in Britain) are equal, we will veto any agreement between the EU and Britain," he said. "I think Britain knows this is an issue for us where there's no room for compromise."Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -
When you vote in an election you vote for a party then they decide what they will do for the next 5 years. You don't get to have another little vote every time they pass a law.
The analogy is the same here. Everybody had the chance to vote remain or leave. Broadly speaking everybody knew what that meant. Another vote on the fine print
was never part of the deal.
True but neither was the solution to a Leave vote ever explained in that manifesto.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -
Seems very clear to me. Maybe you should look a little deeper than the text itself.
Of course, how did I miss it. The words mean what you think they mean rather than what they actually state.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -
Of course, how did I miss it. The words mean what you think they mean rather than what they actually state.
I don't know why you persist on banging on about the meaning. The meaning is clear. As I have stated, that statement is targeted to the other EU countries not the uk government. This is not a hard concept to grasp.
This ...Only Britain can change the terms under which V4 nationals live and work in the UK.
...is not correct.0 -
Again, I don't really see why you are acting like this is impossible. It's already happened in one part of the UK relatively recently;
There will always be local differences; some parts of the UK will drop dramatically, some parts will rise dramatically, most will amble along with modest gains. Northern Ireland accounts for less than 2% of UK property transactions, to suggest the remaining 98% of the country might go the same way is folly...who is left to buy at these prices? In the short-term the answer is probably nobody which is why transaction levels have hit crippling lows,
Excuse me?!? 100,000 buyers a month is "nobody" and "crippling lows", are you for real?!??!Every generation blames the one before...
