So I speculate that if we insist on sensible things like ability to speak english and have essential skills, then its likely that fewer people of some ethnic origins would qualify than others.
These are not my own views I have to say.
If the alternative is to not be sensible about the criteria, then I don't think that would be a sensible path to take.Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -
One of the rare posters that is prepared to give an answer to the immigration question.
At the present time it will lead to a white, western european immigration profile. In the jargon of the day it would be indirectly racists as the people likely to qualify would have to fit the profile.
I dont think it would be classed as racist at all. It would be primarily based on age as I think the age of the immigrant is probably the biggest factor in determining if they will be net contributors financially. Then on English language. Then on social similarities.
So a 20 year old with basic understanding of English and from India or Africa would be far in front of the line than a 55 year old American or Australian.
There should be other factors too like if they have any criminal record its a no and also possibly health checks too to stop or limit those with long term health problems.
Any student with a offer at a UK university (plus the ~£100-200k in funds needed) would jump to the front. Likewise anyone bringing £1 million+ in funds with them would jump towards the front0 -

If they don't care why are they so keen to come on here trying their best to assure everyone and anyone (including themselves) that house prices won't fall, there's never been a better time to buy, keep calm and carry on buying etc etc etc0 -
I'm sure everyone posting in this thread who has just bought are aware prices may fall
they can obviously afford to take the hit if it comes to it - unlikely someone on a money saving forum is going to take decisions on the biggest purchase of their life lightly!0 -

By that very same token, why do the same bunch of people (who I assume will never buy a property) constantly parrot the imminent apocalypse - and apparently have been for years.
I mean, Jesus, if we all held off out of fear that something will change for the worse, nobody would ever get on with their lives.
Even if prices did half next year, it will most likely recover over 5 or ten years. During that time, the occupants are having their families/dogs/dinner parties/whatever.
The alternative is, what? watch the best years of your life fly by? if anyone is right or wrong on the future, it's nothing but dumb luck.0 -

You yourself understand the maths involved. Why pay full price now, when a few months or even a year down the line you could save a good chunk of money. If you're in no rush to buy, then now isn't a good time is it?
Rather than pay these outrageous prices and suffer for many years, why not wait a few months, get a better deal and make it easier for yourself in the future?
Your argument really doesn't cut it because people aren't waiting 5/10 years, they're waiting 6/12 months, which in the grand scheme of things is completely acceptable.0 -
Do you think things will be settled in 12 months? I'd be surprised if things weren't still batcrap crazy in a few years.
I agree that if you are not in a rush to buy (for whatever reason), then yes - now is not a good time to put money down. Absolutely.0 -
It is a logical possibility that there is a distinction between racist and non racist restriction on immigration
what is your (non- racist ) solution to restriction on migration in a non discriminatory manner?
One non-discriminatory way would be to come up with some objective criteria that qualifies an individual for right to residency without reference to their ethnicity or race, and then apply that to everyone who wants residency, be they born here or not. That way you could have the population limits you so desire, along with a control over the "quality" of person in the UK without being racist. The only disadvantage for you there is that you'd probably not make the cut.If you think of it as 'us' verses 'them', then it's probably your side that are the villains.0 -

I'd have to disagree, considering that as you rightly say, this is supposed to be a money saving forum I've never encountered another forum like it where there are so many contributers urging people to over extend themselves and get into as much mortgage debt as they can possibly obtain, the result being there are now plenty of people who appear to be extremely concerned about even a very modest fall in house prices or equally modest rise in IR's due to the fact that they've stretched their borrowing to the absolute limit and were relying on hpi and zirp forever.0
