EU referendum: UK will have to wait until after Brexit to strike new trade deals
Allie Renison, head of Europe and trade at the Institute of Directors said there was "no way" the EU would let the UK start striking out into the world just yet, meaning we would still be blocked from talking to other countries "because it's breaching legal obligations".
She added: "There might be some legal room for informal discussions with countries the EU already has deals with to try to get a sense of whether those countries want to go on with that deal."
The business secretary is holding a roundtable today for leading business figures where discussions on trade deals are expected to be one of the main talking points.
During the referendum campaign, the official Leave campaign said outside of the EU, the UK "will gain the power to strike our own trade deals, creating new business opportunities and creating more jobs."
It added: "We will negotiate a new UK-EU deal ... we will carry on trading with Europe but we will also be able to negotiate trade deals with other countries."

Come on, there will be people in government who will know the answer to which products go where, how much go and what they are.

At which point you know which countries you want a trade deal with and which areas of industry you want to benefit from it.

That's precisely the reason we know 44% of our trade was with the EU, so whilst it's important to get a good deal for those companies it's more important for us to get a good deal for the 66% of exports.

It wouldn't really impact on people that they couldn't import higher cost French wine or BMW's and Audi's when the imports from other parts of the world are just as good and cheaper. Don't forget that the EU is protectionist. World market prices are much cheaper than EU prices, so the sooner those 'rest of the world' deals get set up - the better.

    oh dear

who in government knows this? Where is this information? Why would anyone in government know the business plans of the numerous import / export companies in the UK who have been frustrated in their efforts by high import/export tarriffs?

Whats is to stop you importing Tata Nano's today and outselling Audi's?

I understand your general point but clearly you don;t understand the complexities of all of this; not least the market forces that are at play.
Left is never right but I always am.

Republican Ryan wants trade talks with Britain
Paul Ryan, the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, called on Tuesday for Washington, in parallel with its negotiations with Europe, to pursue a separate free trade agreement with Britain, once it has formally separated from the European Union.
Ryan, the highest-ranking elected Republican in the United States, echoed a call from many members of his party, who have dismissed President Barack Obama's contention that Britain will be at the "back of the queue" for trade talks.

It's disingenuous to suggest all those people searching about the EU now are people who voted for Brexit

I agree. I'm not really on about Leave/Remain. I think the right to vote should be earnt by demonstrating an understanding of the subject matter rather that demonstrating the ability to pick up a pencil with a grubby hand and draw a shaky cross with it.

I think this referendum has shown us that the public shouldn't be allowed to vote on anything until they can prove they have the mental capacity to do so. Democracy is a failed experiment, when the most googled thing is "what is the eu" after the referendum has taken place it's time to strip the vote away from the plebs and force them to prove their knowledge of the subject matter at the polling booths. Starting with this retard in Barnsley http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/eu-referendum-muslims_uk_576e558ce4b08d2c563937ff?edition=uk

It amazes me how some think they are more intelligent and better than others because they "might" know a bit more about politics ........ and then resort to name calling (ie. pleb/retard) - charming!

Judging by the amount of topics you have started on MSE asking for help I gather your not one of the "bright" ones that would have had a vote.......

And how does one 'demonstrate an understanding of the subject matter' exactly?

    I just did.
Unbelievable that someone totally reliant on state handouts is voting for the ones financing those handouts to lose their jobs.
Don't blame me, I voted Remain.

Haven't watched it, but I assume 'smug' summarises it?
At least, one positive of brexit. We won't have this idiot affronting our nation in the EU parliament anymore. :)
Don't blame me, I voted Remain.
