This is an important step forwards as it prevents Governments enacting anti-trade measures via other means.

Of course the massive expansion of free trade may have serious consequences for democracy as well by putting the interests of corporations above those of national and local Govmt!

TBH I think there's been a lot of scare mongering about that. The reality is that Governments remain sovereign and can simply renegotiate the agreement if it isn't working or even tear it up.

I hardly knew a trade deal was being negotiated and last week was the first time I'd seen the letters TTIP. I'm well impressed that 3,000,000 were engaged enough to have checked the details, formed an opinion and signed a petition.

I hope it's rejected and we leave the EU. As we move back in time we might be able to bring back half day closing on a Wednesday, Spangles, and revert to 3 channels on the telly.

TTIP will allow USA company's quote to supply goods in the UK. Will it allow UK company's to quote for goods in the USA........?
    Two way deals = good
One way deals = not so good
There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.

Hmm - day 3 of Obama saying exactly what the Remain camp have written for him - could this be overkill and lead to a backlash or is that just wishful thinking?
    Wishful thinking.

The only backlash has been regarding Boris Johnson's transformation from bumbling buffoon to outright nasty racist.

Boris Johnson faced further embarrassment over his ‘part-Kenyan’ attack on Barack Obama after even Nigel Farage distanced himself from the remarks.
Boris' racism is too much even for Nigel Farage.:rotfl:
Now the leave campaign has utterly lost the economic/trade agreements case, they are set to concentrate on migration. Can't wait for it. :)
Banging on about migrants might appeal to the Claptons of this world, but won't appeal to the moderate majority.
Don't blame me, I voted Remain.

Still 2 months to Independence Day and the govt. have sent out their leaflets, made all their threats, written to every organization on the planet and told them what they need to say and even brought the leader of the free world over to give us a lecture.

They've played all their best cards but made no discernible difference to the polls.
Yes, the leave campaign could counter Obama's intervention by inviting a world leader endorsing brexit.
Someone like Vladimir Putin, Marine Le Pen, Geert Wilders and....and...... no, can't think of anyone else. :)

Aus government may be sovereign, but within the EU there will be no process for the UK to renegotiate or tear up TTIP if we don't like it .

In any event Barack has told us that would take at least 10 years.

Yes TTIP is a two way deal that imposes, AIUI, exactly the same rules on EU members as the USA.

A study estimates (guesses?) that incomes will be about 0.5% higher in the EU and about 0.4% higher in the USA as a result of this deal. If the UK walks away from the EU it walks away from TTIP too of course and every other trade deal signed since 1974.

Still I'm sure that the USA is very keen to spend huge amount of time and money on working out a deal with 60 million people that have just walked away from a market of 500,000,000. Let's hope so anyway. I mean, what could possibly go wrong?

    Yes both ways

Currently any company in the EU can apply to supply public tenders. TTIP from my understanding just increases it to 29 countries instead of 28 countries.

Its probably true that not many world leaders would support the UK leaving; just as most supported the UK joining the euro or financial deregulation before 1007/8.
Sometime 'group think' isn't right : if fact most of the time group think isn't right.
But it does say a lot about the poverty of ideas where one's trump card is that Noble peace prize winning Barack agrees with you. Mind you, I'm still in awe of the way he brought peace to the middle east.
